Who is Aries Merritt? 110m hurdle Olympic champ who has recovered from kidney transplant with organ donated by his sister
The American is back on track, and holds the world record for the 110m hurdles
ARIES MERRITT has been overcoming hurdles all of his life.
The 110m hurdle sprint champ - who holds the world record - is back on the track after recovering from a kidney transplant, with the organ donated by his elder sister.
Who is Aries Merritt?
Born in Chicago on July 24 1985, Merritt is a 110m hurdle champion.
Merritt won gold medal in the 110m hurdle at London 2012 and a few weeks later shattered the world record in 12.80secs.
A year later the American faded to sixth at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow having lost his famed acceleration in the second half of the race.
A few weeks later doctors discovered Merritt had a rare, acute and rapidly progressing kidney disease known as collapsing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, or collapsing FSGS.
He had a kidney transplant in 2015, donated by his big sis, LaToya Hubbard.
Merritt failed to qualify for the 2016 Olympics - but said at the time: "To be where I am is a miracle."
What has Aries Merritt won?
Merritt won Olympic gold in London in 2012, gold in the World Indoor Championships in 2012, and gold in the World Junior Championships in 2004.
