Hansen was defending his side over accusations that his World Cup winners could have injured scrum-half Conor Murray with their late hits in the epic First Test.

Gatland's concerns were met with anger from the Kiwi camp and not only have the backroom staff weight in on him - but so has their media.

Last autumn Gatland was painted as a clown after hitting out at Kiwi's for booing Australia at Eden Park.

Wallabies boss Michael Cheika had already had the treatment and Gatland followed as he stuck the boot into All Blacks fans.

At the time he said: "I was at Eden Park watching the game a couple of weeks ago and, as a Kiwi, I was embarrassed.
"There was still a large portion of the crowd booing Quade Cooper. Get over it. Then there was the clown stuff in the Herald."
