David Haye slapped with £25,000 fine for comments threatening to put Tony Bellew in hospital

Former heavyweight champ endured defeat against the Liverpudlian in March

DAVID HAYE has been fined £25,000 for his comments aimed at Tony Bellew by the British Boxing Board of Control.

The former heavyweight world champ threatened to put Bellew in hospital and end his career before losing their fight in March.

The white towel was thrown into the ring in the 11th round after Haye suffered a serious Achilles injury in the fifth round.

And Haye, 36, had a meeting with the BBCofC on Wednesday in Cardiff that threatened to lose his boxing license.

A statement by the BBCofC read: "The stewards of the British Boxing Board of Control considered the behaviour and comments made by boxer David Haye for his contest with Tony Bellew on March 4, 2017 at the O2 Arena, London at their board meeting on Wednesday, June 14, 2017.

"Mr Haye admitted that his behaviour amounted to misconduct and brought boxing into disrepute.

Haye recently split with trainer Shane McGuigan after comeback talks during his injury rehab.

He insisted his injury wouldn't prevent him from becoming a two-time world heavyweight champion once he makes a full recovery.
