Holding, 21, only made nine Premier League starts last season but five of those came in April as Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista were on the treatment table.

And now Holding, who cost the Gunners £2.1million from Bolton in 2016, is set to extend his current deal which expires in the summer of 2020.

Wenger also faces the prospect of losing his trio of defenders Kieran Gibbs, Mertesacker and Hector Bellerin.

Gibbs has fallen out of favour in the Arsenal first-team whilst Bellerin is attracting the interests of Spanish giants Barcelona.

Towering German defender Mertesacker is considering hanging up his boots this summer.

Meanwhile Wenger has been gifted a £165million transfer warchest this summer and has been told to spend every penny.

Arda Turan, Riyad Mahrez and Kylian Mbappe remain high on his shortlist.
