Kell Brook set for return to ring before Christmas ‘to fight for WBO light middleweight title’ after having ANOTHER eye operation

The Sheffield fighter lost his IBF world title against Errol Spence Jr - and also suffered a broken orbital bone

KELL BROOK is set for ring return before Christmas – and could even fight for the WBO light middleweight title.

Brook amazingly sustained a second broken orbital bone in consecutive fights, this time against Errol Spence Jr at Bramall Lane at the weekend.

This saw the Sheffield man lose his IBF welterweight title to the American after taking a knee in the 11th round, claiming he had double vision.

Brook, 31, was out the ring for eight months after his fight with middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin which resulted in the Sheffield man having a metal plate inserted into his face.

But this time round, trainer Dominic Ingle believes Brook could be back in the ring before Christmas, and is pencilled in for an operation once the swelling has gone down.

Ingle told TalkSPORT: “He did have a holiday booked for a week off, I think he’s going to take that week and when he comes back and he’ll have the operation.

“You have to wait for all the swelling to go down anyway.

“He does want to get back to winning ways, we’ll have a talk to Eddie Hearn his promoter.

“We’re in May now, by the time Kell gets back in the ring, hopefully before Christmas, the boxing scene will change.

“Amir Khan’s talking about 2018, when it comes to 2018, he’ll be talking about 2019, and when it come to 2019, it’ll be 2020 and by the time the fight arrives, Amir Khan’s probably going to be 65-years-old.

“Even after seeing Kell Brook get beat twice, Amir Khan’s still not confident about boxing Kell Brook.

“It’ll be a good fight, it’ll be a good fight for the boxing public.

“But there are other fights at light middleweight, maybe Liam Smith?

“I believe the WBO light middleweight title is vacant, I’m sure that fight could get made.”

Smith, who fell to a brutal loss to middleweight against world class Canelo Alvarez in September, has bounced back with two victories as he looks to get back to winning titles.
