TWO-time world champion Adrian Lewis has announced a sensational return to darts.
The fan favourite has been out of the game for two years after stepping way from the oche in April 2023.
Lewis told supporters he was taking an indefinite break due to stress from darts while taking care of his ill wife Sarah.
Lewis said later on: “Dear all, in particular my fans, I feel that your loyalty deserves an explanation for my absence from tournaments.
“After 20+ years I feel I need a break from the professional circuit for now. Massive thanks for the support from my fans and sponsors.
“Also I’d like to thank the PDC for the opportunity and last but not least my family. Cheers folks.”
However, Lewis has now declared that he is back in the game and ready to rumble against darts’ top stars.
Lewis will make his return in the Modus Super Series in May and can’t wait to get cracking.
He said: “Hello, I’m Adrian Lewis, two-time back-to-back PDC and BDO darts champion.
“I am looking forward to playing in the Modus Super Series sometime in May, so stay tuned.”
Despite his star status, Lewis will not be treated any differently to other darts hopefuls.
Once his time in the Super Series ends, he will not automatically regain his spot back on the PDC Tour.
And instead, he will have to earn his stripes competing through Q School.
Darts chief Barry Hearn said: “Absolutely none (special treatment). Nor can there be.
“It’s not about what you used to do — it’s about what you can do.
“Does he have to go through Q School? Yes. We’d welcome him back with open arms.
“He’s a great lad and a great player. He has had his own personal problems which he has to come to terms with.
“But they are not our problems, they are his problems and it is up to him to solve them.”
