NOTTINGHAM FOREST needed penalties to see off League One side Exeter.
The hosts got off to a dream start in the fourth-round tie as Josh Magennis pounced on an error from goalkeeper Carlos Miguel.
The shock Premier League contenders fought back to take the lead as Ramon Sosa and Taiwo Awoniyi both got on the scoresheet.
It was then expected that Forest would go on to dominate the match.
However, Miguel was at fault again as Magennis netted his second of the match to equalise in the 50th minute.
Nuno Espirito Santo was keen to take advantage of the exits of Arsenal and Liverpool and opted to reinforce his team.

The manager turned to stars such as Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White to try and find a winner in the final 20 minutes.
Forest were given a helping hand as defender Ed Turns was sent off for a high foot on Gibbs-White.
The game was then delayed by 11 minutes after a horror injury to Taiwo Awoniyi after he was caught by Joe Whitworth.
Neither side were able to find a winner before full-time, which led to another 30 minutes to be played in Devon.
