Super Bowl 2025 LIVE RESULT – Taylor Swift BOOED as Eagles thrash Chiefs to win title and ruin three-peat bid – reaction

THE Philadelphia Eagles cruised to their second Super Bowl and thwarted the Kansas City Chiefs' three-peat bid last night.

Jalen Hurts and his men in green were magnificent, with touchdowns from DeVonta Smith, AJ Brown as well as the defensive stars Zach Baun and Cooper DeJean.

But the Kansas City Chiefs will be kicking themselves, after missing the chance of an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat - and their usually magnificent offense took too long to get going.

Taylor Swift made a low-key appearance in the private boxes and her beau Travis Kelce left the field with a face like thunder following a difficult evening in New Orleans, in which she was booed by the Eagles faithful.

RESULT: Kansas City Chiefs 22-40 Philadelphia Eagles

Follow all the latest from Super Bowl LIX with our live blog below...

  • Kansas City Chiefs 0-0 Philadelphia Eagles

Q1 6:35: Touchdown? Not from the replay given, it looks like Jahan Dotson is short on the line after Hurts deep find.

    Tush push time...

  • Kansas City Chiefs 0-0 Philadelphia Eagles

Q1 10:03: Chiefs were on the field, a couple plays from Mahomes but no smoke on a third down play after immediate pressure causes them to punt on the fourth.

It may sound cliche but these two teams are really feeling their way into this.

  • Eagles fury from all quarters

Eagles fans are furious at that penalty on AJ Brown, boos are so loud that the ref’s announcement of the penalty could barely be heard. On a second look when it flashed up on the big screen… they were even louder.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 0-0 Philadelphia Eagles

Q1 11:37: A. J. Brown completes a huge conversation, but a offensive pass interference call pulls the play back and they have to punt away.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 0-0 Philadelphia Eagles

Q1 14:30: The Eagles first drive... you guessed it, a Saquon Barkley run.

  • Kick off

  • Coin toss

Kansas City Chiefs chose tails, it was tails. The two sides will switch sides.

Philadelphia Eagles will receive the kick-off and start this ball game.

  • View from inside

What a welcome for the Eagles from Bradley Cooper, this place is loud! Kansas City fans are outnumbered but certainly made noise for their team too as they came storming out of the tunnel.

President Donald Trump flashes up on the big screen during the national anthem largely to cheers from this crowd at the Superdome. He made a low-key entry but fans in the stadium got a sighting of him then.

  • Three in a row or Revenge?

As etch closer to the Big Game, its important to remember what's at stake for our teams.

Never before has a team won three straight Super Bowls.

Immortality awaits Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid and Travis Kelce if they win tonight.

Their run started two years ago with a victory over this Eagles team in Glendale, Arizona.

They then took that to Las Vegas, Nevada last year to beat the San Francisco 49ers.

And here they are looking to beat the same Philadelphia team they edged past in a thriller in 2023.

The Eagles last won the showpiece event in 2018 - their first and only.

  • Here comes the teams

First the back-to-back champions in the Kansas City Chiefs announced by Jon Hamm.

Followed by the challengers, Philadelphia Eagles roared on by superfan Bradley Cooper and son.

  • Band out in full force

That was a spectacular pregame show celebrating local New Orleans music and culture. The fans here really loved it. Every seat is taken now, it’s almost time…

  • Tribute to New Orleans

Spine-tingling moment inside the stadium as Michael Strahan and Tom Brady narrate a video about the New Orleans terror attack on New Year’s Day and Lady Gaga then takes over with a song shown on the big screen.

  • Ring of steel

NFL bosses are adamant New Orleans will be the safest place on the planet tonight just over a month after a deadly terror attack rocked the city.

Fourteen people were killed when a driver rammed a truck into New Year revellers on the famed Bourbon Street in the heart of town.

Major changes were made to the Super Bowl security plan in the wake of the horror.

And more than 100,000 fans will descend upon the city in Louisiana, where they will be greeted by an army of police and security in a mammoth operation.

Over 2,000 officers including 450 FBI agents, 350 National Guard troops will be on duty alongside state and local police.

NFL security chief Cathy L. Lanier declared: "I'm confident the safest place this weekend will be under the security umbrella we have in place.

"We have reviewed, and re-reviewed, all the events of January 1."

  • Sirianni and family

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and his team have taken to the pitch and so has his family.

Sirianni is joined by his father, Fran, mother Amy, wife Brett and three children, Miles, Taylor and Jacob.

  • Will it be a White House?

Donald Trump has become the first sitting United States President to watch the Super Bowl in person.

He is out shaking hands with the men in white, the Kansas City Chiefs, who he has already backed in public.

The Chiefs are going for the three-peat and the President wants to see it for himself.

  • The GOAT debate...

Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady are currently sat down on Fox for a pre-recorded sit-down talk. And it brings up that conversation again...

Mahomes is now in his fifth Super Bowl, already halfway to Tom Brady’s mark at age just 29.

The Chiefs superstar is already the greatest in some people’s eyes and he’s fielded questions about it this week.

Mahomes said: “I never really think about my legacy - I care more about the legacy of our team.

“We've put in so much work and worked so hard that I want to be remembered for the team that we are and the team that we built here in Kansas City.

“It’s obviously a goal of anyone's to be the greatest at their profession, but in order to do that you have to be the greatest that you can be every single day.

“If that's on the field and the work ethic I put in, or off the field in the father and husband that I am.

"I'm going to try to be the greatest in that way.”

  • Travis is suited and booted

What would we call this suit color? Paprika?

Travis Kelce is certainly capturing some cajun spice in NOLA.

  • More Jimmy Johnson reaction

Fans were stunned as beloved Fox NFL Sunday star Jimmy Johnson retired on air during the pregame coverage from New Orleans.

The former Miami Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys head coach told a shocked audience, the time was right, with tears welling up in the corners of his eyes.

Johnson, 81, said: "I can truly say because of my family and because of ya'll, I've never been happier than in this time of my life. Happiest I've ever been in my life.”

Thank you Jimmy, a gentleman of the game.

  • Teams are OUT

Big cheers as Eagles players start to emerge for warmups, it’s starting to fill up inside the bowl now as fans make their way in from the pregame entertainment outside. I’ve heard one E-A-G-L-E-S chant so far but I’m sure there’ll be plenty more.

Here come the Chiefs led by Mahomes and Kelce, and it’s fair to say it’s a Philly crowd in here tonight. Loud boos as the two-time defending champions take the field.

  • Breaking: Jimmy Johnson retires

Beloved host of Fox NFL Sunday Jimmy Johnson has announced he is retiring in a teary admission live on air.

    More to follow...

  • What happened last year?

It only feels like yesterday - with the Chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas.

But it started off at a pedestrian pace, with Patrick Mahomes getting sacked twice in the first quarter.

The first points of the Super Bowl weren't even scored until the second quarter, with Jake Moody pile-driving over a 55-yard field goal - a record in the big show.

The first touchdown of the game came in the second quarter with Jauan Jennings completing an incredible trick play alongside Brock Purdy, with the wide receiver throwing the ball to Christian McCaffrey, who motored in for a touchdown.

Mahomes showed signs of what he's capable of with the clock running down at the end of the first half, but he was sacked with the endzone in sight and Harrison Butker slotted over a field goal, with the 49ers up 10-3 at the half.

Mahomes then started off the second half by being sacked and then throwing an interception.

It was a tame third quarter until Patrick Mahomes got two first downs on his own, but Butker had to settle for another lengthy field goal.

Then the game pivoted on a punt return, fumbled by the 49ers inside their 20 and pounced on by the Chiefs special teams unit.

You needn't give Mahomes such an invitation. He would throw to Marquez Valdes-Scantling with the next play for a touchdown.

And back came the 49ers with Jennings, who spun into the endzone for a touchdown and a San Francisco lead.

But what about that combo: Mahomes and Kelce. They just speak the same language and Patrick Mahomes would help the Chiefs drive down the field, but Harrison Butker would take the field goal for 16-16 with just under six minutes left.

At this point, the 49ers had the ball and were running down the clock in order to get the ball into field goal range. The kick was good from Moody less than two minutes on the clock.

Cue Mahomes with the clock ticking AGAIN. The Chiefs superstar would roll his team into field goal range to tie up the game, with Kelce getting the pivotal reception into the sideline, giving Butker the chance to square it at 19-19 for overtime.

San Francisco would have the ball and the Chiefs would give up a crucial penalty, before McCaffrey would skip down the field for a first down, but Purdy could not throw for a touchdown, so Moody would take the three, giving the Chiefs another chance with the ball.

The Chiefs got themselves into a fourth and one situation, but Mahomes is Mahomes and that offense showed its quality on all fronts, with a scramble from the star quarterback giving the Chiefs a sniff of glory.

And it would come from Mahomes with 10 seconds left on the clock, throwing to Mecole Hardman Jr, whose catch would etch Kansas City's name on to the trophy once again.

  • Run it back

As for Hurts' teammate, Saquon Barkley, he wasn't an Eagles player when these two sides last met in the showpiece.

Though, Philadelphia’s chances tonight will likely rest on the running back's *feet*

Barkley has been sensational since his shock move from the New York Giants last year as a free agent.

He fell just short of Eric Dickerson’s single-season record of 2,105 rushing yards.

But Barkley could be the missing piece in the jigsaw that the Eagles need to get over the line, which they weren’t able to do two years ago.

  • A loss that Hurts

In the build-up to this year's Super Bowl, Jalen Hurts admitted that the 2023 defeat left a mark.

He set his phone screensaver to an image of him walking off the field as the Chiefs celebrated.

Hurts said: “It lit a fire in me.

"It's had a great driving force, and to have this opportunity again is exactly what you work for.”

  • Why are the Chiefs wearing white?

It's the same uniform arrangement as two years ago here in New Orleans.

That means Philadelphia wear green and Kansas City wear white for tonight's Super Bowl.

Last year the Chiefs wore red as they beat the San Francisco 49ers, who also usually wear red.

  • Cajun haven in NOLA

The food has a Louisiana flavor here.

This alligator sausage po boy caught my eye. A po boy is a New Orleans style sandwich.

Highly recommended if ever you visit.
