Super Bowl 2025 LIVE RESULT – Hurts’ Eagles stun Chiefs to win title and ruin Mahomes’ three-peat bid – reaction

THE Philadelphia Eagles have won their second Super Bowl and thwarted the Kansas City Chiefs' three-peat bid.

Jalen Hurts and his men in green have been magnificent with touchdowns from DeVonta Smith, AJ Brown as well as the defensive stars Zach Baun and Cooper DeJean.

But the Kansas City Chiefs will be kicking themselves, after missing the chance of an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat - and their usually magnificent offense took too long to get going.

Taylor Swift made a low-key appearance in the private boxes and her beau Travis Kelce left the field with a face like thunder following a difficult evening in New Orleans.

  • Softly spoken Hurts is MVP

If there is one thing for sure, it is that Jalen Hurts will NOT be getting carried away with the Eagles' win.

Asked about the criticism, he said: "I never said it bothered me. I accepted it for what it was. I found a thrill in it.

"I can't control what these people think.”

Hurts kept the image of him walking off the field after Super Bowl 57 with Chiefs-colored confetti falling down around him as his screen saver image on his cell phone.

He added: "That's something nobody is supposed to know about.

Asked if he would it is better to have a victorious screensaver, he replied: “Darn right it is.”

  • Siri-ously don’t care

Nick Sirianni does things his way - and wins.

We didn't really ever care what anyone thought about how we won... all we wanted to do was win.

These guys did not want to let each other down.

That's a great football team (the Chiefs).

We had to come out and play our best. What a lesson to the whole world about teamwork.

This is the ultimate team game. You can't be great without the greatness of others and this was a great performance by everybody. It took everybody.

I'll be shedding a couple of happy tears tonight. A lot of work went into this.

  • What's next for Kelce?

Travis Kelce has brushed aside rumours of retirement in the lead up to the Super Bowl, but with a historic three-peat of the table, dose the topic creep back into off-season conversations.

“I still love what I do. I love coming into work every day," he said in the week's build-up.

"It's moments like these that make me feel like I could play this game forever.

"I feel like I still have a lot of good football left in me so we'll see what happens.

  • Hurts named Super Bowl MVP

It could've went to a host of guys, particularly those in the defence when a historic shut-out was on the cards after two quarters and a bit.

Jalen Hurts takes it, as the quarterback usually dose, and deservedly so. Though an award for the match, it feels one that justifies his contribution as a player and leader to the Eagles organisation as a whole.

  • Trophy coronation

The confetti is out and the Eagles have their hands on the Super Bowl.

Owner Jeffrey Lurie, Nick Sirianni and Hurts have steped up to the stage in varying emotions - some more measured than others.

  • The unspoken man

With all the glamour on dimply in this Eagles team, in the players and the staff, its the Executive vice president who has masterminded this championship.

Howie Roseman backed Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni when others didn't, especially in that Week 5 bye week.

Offensive and defensive coaches have been brought in, free agency manoeuvring like no other and onus on a style of play unconventional to modern means.

  • Hurts - 'Defence wins championships'

The statement has never rang truer than today.

"Defence wins championships," quarterback Hurts repeated in his post-match on-pitch interview.

    "We saw how they [Eagles defence] play today and the difference they made today and we were able to do what we do.";

  • Sunni Upal in New Orleans

Patrick Mahomes shook hands with Jalen Hurts and then made a quick exit from the field of play, he and the Chiefs had a night to forget. The confetti is falling on the Eagles, they’ve got their revenge for Arizona two years ago.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 22-40 Philadelphia Eagles

Nick Sirianni is a NFL champion and the city of Philadelphia has a Super Bowl winning team again.

Two years on from that fourth quarter collapse against the Chiefs in 2023, the moment of revenge has come for the Eagles - who win their second title.

  • EAGLES ARE SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS

The Philadelphia side defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 22-40 and are Super Bowl LIX Champions.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 22-40 Philadelphia Eagles

Q4 1:48: Well, there's a reason the Chiefs are here for a third consecutive year, even if they won't win it.

Mahomes' arm talent is undeniable and it shows with a deep find to Worthy.

The two point play again is good to Hopkins but regardless all is nearing the end.

  • TOUCHDOWN CHIEFS

Mahomes and Worthy aren't done yet - a 50 yard play connects.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 14-40 Philadelphia Eagles

Q4 2:54: A routine touchdown in not so routine circumstances.

The two point play to Watson is good but too late.

The Gatorade shower is already out for the Eagles - its lemon/lime.

  • TOUCHDOWN CHIEFS

Mahomes spears a ball to Hopkins in the bottom left corner of the endzone box.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 6-40 Philadelphia Eagles

Q4 5:05: Eagles have the ball in the endzone AGAIN.

That being said, it wont count. A flag was raised before the play happened for an offside on Carter despite Gardner-Johnson jogging it all the way.

  • Super Bowl attendance - Chiefs fans leaving

65,719 is the official attendance tonight at the Superdome and my guess is at least 40,000 of those will be going home happy. Chiefs fans have started to leave and Eagles fans are beginning to party.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 6-40 Philadelphia Eagles

Q3 8:04: Elliott makes it four from four.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 6-37 Philadelphia Eagles

Q4 9:42: Its been a defensive onslaught by the Eagles - and successful blitz befuddles Mahomes once more.

Williams strips the ball from Mahomes before he can release and creates the fumble which the Eagles pounce on and get the turnover.

  • STRIP SACK CHIEFS

Willams strips the ball from Mahomes in the act of throwing.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 6-37 Philadelphia Eagles

Q4 9:56: Hurts and co. gain some nice yardage for kicker Elliott to make good.

48-yards is drilled and the Eagles score is reaching an unassailable amount.

  • No shut-out

That late third quarter touchdown from the Chiefs means they has still NEVER been a shut-out in a Super Bowl game.

That unwanted record evades this game.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 6-34 Philadelphia Eagles

Q3 00:34: Worthy makes a worthy run straight into the defence of the Eagles and Mahomes gives himself time as he gets to the near sideline throws across body in traditional fashion and finds his receiver.

Mahomes and co. go for two point conversation but no dice.

  • TOUCHDOWN CHEFS

Worthy collects Mahomes on-the-run sideline pass.

  • Kansas City Chiefs 0-34 Philadelphia Eagles

Q3 2:40: Talk about flexing your confidence!

The Eagles have been built on their run game to the point, you forget they have a quarterback back there. But, Hurts gives you the sharpest reminder of what he can do with a 46-yard DIME that arrowed all the way to Smith in the endzone.
