JOE GOMEZ looked devastated after he was forced off inside the first eight minutes of Liverpool's third-round FA Cup clash.
Gomez had just returned from a hamstring problem to start for Liverpool away at Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle.
Inside the opening exchanges at Home Park, Gomes limped off and had to pass on the captain's armband to Diogo Jota.
Young right-back Isaac Mabaya, who has had his own fair share of injuries in the last 12 months or so, came on to replace him.
Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate did not travel with the Merseyside derby coming up this midweek.
Gomez has not long come back from a muscle injury that he sustained in Liverpool's 5-0 win at West Ham at the back end of 2024.
