ROY KEANE reckons Alejandro Garnacho “can’t be trusted to start” for Manchester United.

The winger, 20, has endured a below-par season with just three goals and one assist in 23 Premier League outings.

Garnacho has struggled to command a starting spot under Ruben Amorim.

And it saw him strongly linked with a move away from United in January.

The Red Devils were ready to sell for around £70million in a bid to raise funds for new signings.

Chelsea were strongly linked with a bid for Garnacho.

While Napoli also attempted to lure him away from Old Trafford.

But Garnacho stayed put before having a dismal outing in the 2-0 Premier League defeat to Crystal Palace.

The Argentina international was then axed from Amorim’s starting XI for the FA Cup tie against Leicester.

But with United 1-0 down, Garnacho was thrown on at half-time and played a crucial role in helping his side win 2-1.

As a result, Red Devils legend Keane reckons the forward should remain an option off the bench from now on.

Keane believes Garnacho has shown he can’t be relied upon to deliver the goods from minute one in a match.

And Amorim should instead look to turn the youngster into an impact player, with his pace ideally suited to stretching tired defences later on in games.

Keane told ITV: “I think it suits Garnacho when he comes off the bench.

“I don’t think you can trust him when he starts.

“But when he comes off the bench and you’re gambling and the team is stretched, that’s when he comes into his own.

“United put Leicester on the backfoot and the subs came on. That’s what Garnacho does well.

“The first half United were going sideways and sideways. He came on and tested Leicester.”

Fellow pundit Ian Wright disputed Keane’s claim though, insisting he was surprised Garnacho did not start against the Foxes.

Wright countered: “I am very surprised Garnacho did not start in this game, he did the same in the game against Liverpool.

“He comes on and you can’t deal with him. He comes on with pace and attack.”
