Brighton vs Chelsea preview

Brighton and Chelsea renew hostilities with both fighting for a place in Monday's FA Cup fifth-round draw.

This is the second time these two have met in the 2024-25 campaign with Chelsea running out 4-2 winners back in September.

It might be the second but it's certainly not the last with the pair scheduled to meet six days later in the Premier League.

Some will consider it a dress rehearsal for their league encounter, but neither manager views it like that.

Chelsea's Enzo Maresca has described it as 'do or die' for his side, while Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler says it holds a "big meaning" for the Seagulls.

Rotation or changes will therefore be at a minimum with both sides expected to field their strongest starting XIs.

Brighton will hope to use the contest as a springboard for better things. The hosts have suffered successive defeats to Everton and Nottingham Forest - with the latter a humiliating 7-0 drubbing.

The Seagulls have won five of their six FA Cup fourth round ties since promotion in 2017, but their recent record against Chelsea makes for grim reading.

Brighton have lost each of their last four meetings with Chelsea in all competitions, and the Seagulls have also won just one of their last 11 home matches against the Blues (D3 L7).

The Blues, meanwhile, returned to winning ways against West Ham United on Monday night to put themselves back in the Champions League qualification places.

The eight-time winners of the FA Cup have progressed from 25 of their last 27 FA Cup fourth round ties, although their last success in the competition arrived back in 2018.

Brighton vs Chelsea preview betting tips and predictions

Unders

I have a feeling this encounter will require extra-time and penalties.

Brighton are having a nightmare run at the Amex Stadium, winning just one of their last eight games in all competitions. They've failed to score more than once in each of their last five on home turf - and blanked against Everton or Nottingham Forest in their last two games.

It's not exactly been great for Chelsea on the road over the last few weeks either. They've failed to win away from Stamford Bridge since beating Astana in the Conference League, blanking twice and also failing to score more than once in their last four.

Carded

There's usually a good amount of spice in this clash, mainly due to the number of players and staff members Chelsea have poached from the Amex Stadium over the years - 13 in total since 2022.

One of those players is Moises Caicedo, who is available at 7/4 to be carded with William Hill. The 23-year-old has collected six bookings in 24 league matches, and two of those arrived in the last three games.

He's also faced Brighton four times since leaving and has been shown yellow cards in two of those matches, while no Chelsea player can match his 20 fouls on the road this season.
