Man Utd 2-1 Leicester LIVE RESULT: Maguire’s controversial last gasp winner sends Red Devils into fifth round – reaction

Sponsored by

MANCHESTER UNITED have beaten Leicester 2-1 to progress to the FA Cup fifth round.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid broke the deadlock on 42 minutes, nodding in from close range after Wilfred Ndidi's goalbound shot was blocked.

Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to equalise for the Red Devils in the second half - tapping in from eight yards out.

With seconds to go, Harry Maguire was the hero for United, scoring a bullet header to give the Red Devils a 2-1 lead.

The last-gasp difference maker was clouded with controversy as the centre-back appeared to be in an offside position when Bruno Fernandes swung in the cross.

However, VAR is not used until the fifth round of the FA Cup this season, so the goal stood, and United advanced to the next round.

Oh you selfish boy! Garnacho has two teammates absolutely RAGING with him!

He works a great one-two with Hojlund to get inside the box on the left and in acres of room.

He has a square pass across the six-yard box where Hojlund and Amad are there for a tap in. He goes alone and tries to give the keeper the eyes, hitting the side netting. What a waste.

What a chance on the break for Leicester!

They win the ball back from a dreadful United corner from Fernandes - who has also been anonymous tonight and drive 40 yards and over halfway with it.

On the stretch it's rolled through for El Khannouss in a race with Mazraoui and the defender slides in to JUST get the ball and edge it away from danger. A pass to McAteer on the left might've been a better option.

  • From Martin Blackburn at Old Trafford

The half-time introduction of Alejandro Garnacho breathed new life into United and the Argentine came within millimetres of equalising before setting up the equaliser – tapped in by another sub Joshua Zirkzee.

Much more of a cup tie after dismal first half and could go either way – though United are now favourites.

    Change for Leicester.

    • OFF: De Cordova-Reid
    • ON: McAteer
  • Harsh on Leicester

The numbers remain fairly level across the board heading into the final 20 minutes of the tie.

    Not much to split them.

  • GOAL DETAIL

The two subs heavily involved and Zirkzee gets it having only just come on.

Garnacho finds himself in a terrific position of being 1v1 against De Cordova-Reid on the left wing. He skips by him as if he wasn't there and a low ball into the box is flicked goalward by Hojlund.

It's blocked by Faes but the keeper is already on his way down and it falls to Zirkzee six yards out to tap into an empty net.

Huge fortune for him and United and they needed that as it wasn't going to be quality that drew them level.

First shot on target and they're level - JOSHUA ZIRKZEE with it!

  • 65 – Manchester United 0-1 Leicester

    SENSATIONAL DEFENDING!

Garnacho is sent clear down the United left and has acres of room to close in on goal.

The finish is typical of United tonight in being poor, with Faes sliding in to block.

But it hits the centre back and loops over the keeper, only for Okoli to charge back and on the slide, one yard out, he smashes the ball up in the air, off the crossbar and away to safety.

It stopped a certain goal and looked even more impressive on the slide and with the use of the woodwork.

    The substitution working already...

Here comes a change for United as Mainoo is being replaced.

Right call, he's been miles off it tonight.

  • 63 – Manchester United 0-1 Leicester

United out of possession have been utterly atrocious.

Not an ounce of energy out there. They're chasing shadows as Leicester knock the ball about so easily.

He has to make changes, Amorim.

  • 59 – Manchester United 0-1 Leicester

Winks has been on 90 seconds and has already had more passes than Mainoo and Fernandes.

A great move saw him pop the ball around and get it back as the away fans shouted 'ole'.

An hour gone now and still no effort on target for United.

  • 58 – Manchester United 0-1 Leicester

Double change for Ruud van Nistelrooy's men.

    • OFF: Thomas & Ndidi
    • ON: Coulibaly & Winks
  • 56 – Manchester United 0-1 Leicester

Garnacho skips by Justin very easily down the left and shows good pace to get away.

He drives into the box on the left but his cut-back is again poor as Leicester are able to intercept and clear.

Mazraoui tries to make up for that when collecting a loose ball 45 yards from goal.

He drives ten yards before striking at goal but it's tame and well, well wide.

  • 52 – Manchester United 0-1 Leicester

Amateur hour continues at Old Trafford.

Noussair Mazraoui with a foul throw eight yards from his own corner flag. Thomas' throw-in in return isn't much better mind you.

  • 50 – Manchester United 0-1 Leicester

Another good break from Leicester as the United defence keep backing off to allow El Khannouss to drive.

He gets to within a few yards of the edge of the area but drags his shot wide in the end.

  • 46 - Manchester United 0-1 Leicester

A bit better from Hojlund to bash his way past Faes on halfway.

He drives 40 yards to the byline but his ball across is tame and easily cleared.

  • SECOND HALF

We're back underway at Old Trafford.

A huge 45 minutes ahead of Manchester United - and Ruben Amorim!

  • Home change

And probably a surprise given how rotten some of his teammates were but Patrick Dorgu has been hooked at half time.

A shame for the new boy who looked relatively sharp, playing on the complete wrong side of the pitch.

Amorim just guessing at this stage? Perhaps.

Amad now moves to right wing back

    • OFF: Dorgu
    • ON: Garnacho
  • Back out early

The United players are sent back out early for the second half.

Leicester's players gather in the tunnel to leave them waiting a few minutes.

  • Half time stats

In my half time post earlier I forgot to add 'No shots on target'.

Leicester with one more pass in that half as they split the possession.

  • 'Shocking'

A seething Roy Keane has told ITV at half time: "They've been shocking. Really, really poor.

"You start looking into this United team, for all the stats. No shots on target, only two against Palace.

"They're actually boring now. You feel like going into the dressing room just now and remind them there's a goal at that end and you need to put the ball into the back of the net."

  • From Martin Blackburn at Old Trafford

From bad to worse for United. A toothless first half showing and just before the break was bad enough but then they went behind in chaotic fashion.

Onana saved from Ndidi but the rebound hit De Cordova-Reid and bounced over the line.

More Old Trafford misery beckons for Ruben Amorim’s men who have lost five of the last six Prem games at the Theatre of Dreams.

  • HALF TIME!

Boos ring around Old Trafford and rightly so, they have been absolutely abysmal.

No pace, no endeavour, no quality, no creativity, no hope.

Leicester haven't even had to work hard for their half-time lead.
