But after a difficult 2024 season - failing to win a TV major title and dropping out of the top ten in the rankings - and reckoning he had put on weight, Wright wanted it to be a case of 'new year, new me' heading into 2025.

However, he said he was blocked from doing so - and instead must stick with his current song.

Wright, 44, said: "Just seen myself up there, big fat fellow jumping across the stage.

"I've got to lose a bit of weight.

"I wanted to change my walk-on tune but I wasn't allowed."

Despite his disappointing 2024, Wright has started the 2025 season well by beating Luke Humphries at the World Championship and saw off Kevin Doets in his World Masters opener to set up a showdown with Stephen Bunting.

And he is feeling good about himself - both in terms of his darts and his physique.

Wright - "relieved" to be left out of the Premier League line-up - added: "I feel it’s up to me how good I can get as long as I don’t look in the mirror.

"When it comes to March, I am 55, but , so if I feel like that playing darts then everyone is in trouble. I feel really good.

"I am doing new stuff since getting beaten by Stephen Bunting at the Worlds, doing lots of new stuff and I’m enjoying darts now.

'A bit spaghetti bolognaise' - James Wade lifts lid on bizarre walk-on for World Darts Masters

"I have got a new buzz. I don’t know what it is, but I feel good and that I can only get better."

Walk-on songs are the talk of darts right now - following James Wade's "spaghetti bolognese" shambles.

The Machine could not resist a shimmy and a shake when he got on stage during Elton John anthem I'm Still Standing.

But he compared his dad dancing to the messy Italian dish.

Asked if he is hoping to get on Strictly Come Dancing, Wade joked: "No, no it's a little bit of spaghetti bolognese, I think!"
