Liverpool vs Tottenham preview

Liverpool and Tottenham battle it out for a place in March's Carabao Cup final.

Lucas Bergvall's strike in January's first meeting gave Spurs a slender 1-0 advantage heading into the second leg at Anfield.

But despite trailing, Arne Slot's side are heavily fancied to overcome the one-goal deficit and register a record-extending 15th appearance in the competition's finale.

And that's for good reason.

Liverpool are in imperious form having won four of their last five in all competitions, with their only defeat arriving at PSV without several first-team players.

They are enjoying a run of 15 games unbeaten at Anfield stretching back to September, winning 13 of those and scoring 41 goals with seven clean sheets.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 27 home games against Tottenham in all competitions (W19 D7), and are unbeaten in 14 (W10 D4) since a 2-0 loss in May 2011.

They've also progressed to the final on two of the last three occasions they’ve lost the first leg of a League Cup semi-final.

As for visiting Spurs, who've won this competition four times (1971, 1973, 1999, 2008), they arrive in perhaps their best form since last November having won three of their last four in all competitions.

A victory with a clean sheet away at high-scoring Brentford will have done their confidence a world of good.

And they'll need that given they've been eliminated three of the last five times they’ve won the first leg of a League Cup semi-final.

New recruit Kevin Danso is also expected to make his debut with fellow centre-back Micky van de Ven's availability reportedly in the balance.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah has been involved in nine goals in his last six appearances against Tottenham in all competitions, scoring six and assisting three.

The Egyptian, 32, is also in excellent form having netted four goals in his last three starts - including a brace against high-flying Bournemouth last time out. No Premier League player even comes close to Salah's number of penalty area touches over the last four league outings, while only two can better his 16 attempts.

Dominik Szoboszlai isn't shy of an effort or two. The Hungarian international, 24, has scored four goals and provided five assists this season - including one of each in the Premier League clash against Tottenham.
