Steven Gerrard leaves Al-Ettifaq as Liverpool legend admits things ‘didn’t go the way we want’
STEVEN GERRARD has officially left Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq after 18 months.
The 44-year-old requested to leave earlier this week amid the club's ongoing struggles in the Saudi Pro League.
His departure has now been confirmed by Al-Ettifaq officials.
A statement read: "Ettifaq football club and Steven Gerrard have today mutually agreed to part company.
"The decision follows an amicable conclusion to the relationship with the manager."
Discussing his exit, Gerrard said: "I want to express my gratitude to the club, the players, the fans, and everyone involved for the opportunity and the support during my time here, especially the president, Mr. Samer, CEO Mr Hamad and the head of football committee Mr. Hatim.

"I express my gratitude for Mr. Samer and Mr. Hatim from the first day I was warmly welcomed, and I have enjoyed the chance to work in a new country with a different culture.
"So overall I have learned a lot and it's been a positive experience personally and for my family as well.
"But football is unpredictable and sometimes things don't go the way we want.
"However, I leave with great respect for the club and country.

Gerrard was appointed Al-Ettifaq head coach in July 2023 and was awarded a new contract just six months later.
During his time at the club he managed 19 wins, 16 draws and suffered 20 defeats in 55 games.
Prior to his time in Saudi Arabia, Gerrard spent 11 months in charge of Aston Villa in the Premier League.
And before then he enjoyed a successful stint with in Scotland.
