  • Full time reaction from Graeme Bryce at Molineux

Unai Emery will be even more desperate to land Marcus Rashford after his side drew a blank at lowly Wolves.

Villa might be £70million richer this weekend following the sale of Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr.

But it was Vitor Pereira's men who cashed in as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde gave them a first half lead before Villa target Matheus Cunha finished the job seven minutes into stoppage time.

How Emery must wish Wolves would do business and let him have his brilliant Brazilian!

When Ollie Watkins limped off at half-time following a clash with Jose Sa, and never returned, it would usually have been the cue to send on super-sub Duran.

But the Colombian was already counting his dosh in Saudi Arabia following his £70million transfer and, without their talismanic back-up striker Villa blanked out.

Meanwhile Wolves were left to celebrate a crucial and deserved win which lifted them out of the relegation zone, two points clear of Leicester City.

  • 'We can do it'

Vitor Pereira knows it's just the start of a survival bid but hopes the team and supporters can work together to pull it off.

    He told Sky Sports: "

"Very happy. Very proud. We played a tough game. Tactically we played with quality. We played as a team with true spirit, working together and suffering together.

"I'm very happy. Important game not only for the three points but to break this [bad run]. We know this kind of team [Villa] will come strong and try everything. We organised the block. A clean sheet for us. For everyone we are happy.

"We know it's a long way, a difficult way. With our supporters and this spirit we can do it."

  • Still to come

A terrific Sunday of Premier League action to come tomorrow, too...

    • Brentford vs Tottenham 2pm
    • Man Utd vs Crystal Palace 2pm
    • Arsenal vs Manchester City 4.30pm
  • Unai reacts

Unai Emery relieved any worries on Ollie Watkins, telling Sky Sports: "We tried to give fresh legs and tactically tried to change things (in the second half). Watkins had a small pain and hopefully it is not a big injury he has. I needed to introduce some fresh legs and something tactically with Leon Bailey getting wider.

"We had two chances from Malen that the goalkeeper saved really well and then the goal VAR refused. We controlled it better and the last one they scored the goal but in the second half we didn't conceded many chances.

"We are speaking about our ambition and increasing our levels and then when we are not getting it, the frustration we have. We are still building a team. We got Champions League this year and are competing well but to build a team to be competitive in the high demands, we need more time."

  • At the bottom

A massive win for Wolves who climb out the bottom three.

Personally, it would take a bit of a collapse for any of the three promoted sides - in the bottom three - to get themselves safe from this point.

  • What it means

In terms of the top half, Villa blow their chance to close the gap on those above them.

And if that Watkins injury is as bad as feared, they could be in for a tough time this next while.

  • Today's Premier League scores

A dramatic day of action in the Premier League and 21 goals from six games.

    • Nottingham Forest 7-0 Brighton
    • Bournemouth 0-2 Liverpool
    • Everton 4-0 Leicester
    • Ipswich 1-2 Southampton
    • Newcastle 1-2 Fulham
    • Wolves 2-0 Aston Villa

  • GOAL DETAIL

Villa are pushing forward and leave themselves wide open at the back.

When turning the ball over, the ball over the top finds Cunha who is clean through.

Konsa gets back goal-side inside the area to halt the move.

Or so he thought. Cunha takes his time, gets the ball out his feet then finds the far corner with a terrific strike.

Shirt off and yellow card for the celebration. Justified though!

  • 90+7 - GOAL!! WOLVES 2-0 Aston Villa

Game over - MATHEUS CUNHA wraps up the points for Wolves!

  • 90+3 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Sa manages to climb highest and push the ball away but only as far Tielemans, who is wild with his finish on the left foot.

It's cheered by the majority inside Molineux as it flies above Row Z.

  • 90+2 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Bailey drives in from the right and works a shot on his left foot which takes a couple of deflections and goes wide.

Villa need to make something of this. Surely...?

  • 90 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

    Seven minutes added on!

  • 89 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

    Great goalkeeping from Jose Sa!

Malen is slipped in by Tielemans just on the left of centre, into the box and the Wolves keeper rushes off his line to deny him.

  • 87 - Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Unai Emery goes to his bench for the final time.

    • OFF: Bogarde
    • ON: Nedeljkovic

Wolves go to their bench too with a few minutes to go as they look to see this one out.

    • OFF: Bellegarde
    • ON: Bueno
  • 85 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Neat and tidy build-up from Villa in a tight area.

It's worked to Malen 22 yards from goal who manages to work a yard and strike powerfully at goal but Sa is equal to it pushing it away.

The offside flag goes up as the rebound attempt is blocked.

  • Match stats

Better from Villa in this second half but Jose Sa still having a rather chilled evening as things stand.

Wolves forfeiting much of the ball but still relatively comfortable.

  • 78 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Cunha curls over the wall but just drags it a couple of feet wide.

  • 77 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Bit of an awkward tackle from Kamara a few yards outside his own box.

It's great play from Wolves to drive up the park before Kamara's tackle on Gomes very centrally.

  • 72 - Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Double change for Wolves - eventually...

Huge confusion as the fourth official holds the board on and seems to stop the sub coming on waiting for someone to come off. The number he's held up is for Guedes who departed as soon as the board went up.

All a touch amateurish in truth.

    • OFF: Ait-Nouri & Guedes
    • ON: Doyle & Gomes
  • From Graeme Bryce at Molineux

Couple of controversial moments at Molineux.

First Villa are denied an equaliser after Donyell Malen bundles the ball home following a set piece routine.

But his celebrations are cut short when VAR spots Morgan Rogers has come from an offside position to block off Nelson Semedo to get involved in the play and rules it out.

Next Wolves are furious when Malen appears to catch Toti in the box - only for VAR to decide no spot kick.

  • 66 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Villa certainly improved in this second half but they couldn't have been any worse.

Still not quite peppering the goal yet but they do win a corner.

It's another poor one and Wolves counter but the cross towards Cunha just misses the striker and the back post and drifts away for a goal kick.

  • 64 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Rogers loses the ball on the edge of the Wolves box and just trips his man looking to break.

Maybe slightly fortunate not to be carded there and maybe would have had he not been carded in the first half.

  • 58 – Wolves 1-0 Aston Villa

Complete one-way traffic as those Villa changes appear to have sparked them into life.

Bellegarde wins a free kick from Bogarde deep inside the Villa half and it's welcome relief for those Wolves defenders for the time being at least.
