WOODEN Spoon holders Wales brace themselves for the unenvious task of opening their Six Nations campaign against France.
The two sides had underwhelming tournaments last year.
For France, the past two years have been a gradual comedown after winning the Grand Slam in 2022.
The quarter-final exit in the 2023 World Cup was unexpected and then followed up by a 2024 Six Nations immediately overshadowed after opening game defeat to Ireland.
Despite that, Fabien Galthie’s side ended the year with a record of eight wins in 11 and boast some of the best players in the rugby game.
Wales, on the other hand, can't share such optimism.

The Welsh rugby programme took a real hit in the past 12 months - lost every game in a calendar year for the first time since 1937.
Warren Gatland and his long-time assistant, Rob Howley are still at the helm and with them they're gradually ushering in some revived offerings of hope with the intake of high-potential young players.
In many ways, opening up the tournament is a blessing and a curse for both sides.
