‘Heartbroken’ family’s tribute to ‘cherished’ daughter & ‘loving fiancee’ of Mayo GAA ace ‘sadly missed’ after death
THE family of Róisín Cryan have paid a heartbreaking tribute after her tragic death was confirmed by Gardai.
The 28-year-old woman was engaged to Mayo GAA star Conor Loftus.
Gardai confirmed that her body was recovered from the River Moy in Ballina.
On Saturday her parents created paying tribute to their beloved daughter.
It read: "Róisín will be sadly missed by her heartbroken family.
"Forever cherished daughter of Joe and Marguerite, loving fiancé Conor Loftus, adored sisters Annmarie, Clare, Ruth and Maeve, Clare’s fiancé Eugene, the Loftus family, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, neighbours, work colleagues and a large circle of friends.
"Pre-deceased by grandparents William and Mai Cryan, Bernard and Annie Donohue, her cousin Michael, aunt Mary and uncle Hughie."
Regarding her funeral details, it added: "Removal to St. Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon on Tuesday evening arriving at 6 o’clock.
"Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday at 11 o’clock followed by burial in Drumlion Cemetery."
Roscommon GAA club Shannon Gaels - close to her home area of Carrick-on-Shannon in Leitrim - have been among the scores to express condolences upon hearing of her sad passing.
The club posted on its social media pages: "On behalf of the entire Shannon Gaels GAA community, we extend our deepest condolences to the Cryan family and loved ones of Róisín.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time.
"May you find strength and comfort in each other, and know that we stand with you in your grief."
Among the individual tributes paid, one person said: ‘’Heartfelt sympathy to Joe, Marguerite and Róisín’s sisters and to the extended Cryan and Loftus families on your great loss.
"Maeve and Roisin were always in and out of our house when they were children, playing with the dog and chatting to my parents.
"With my sympathy and fond regards. Take good care of yourselves and of each other."
Conor had been due to play in an All-Ireland intermediate final for Crossmolina Deel Rovers against Ballinderry this weekend.
However, the GAA confirmed the postponement of that fixture on Friday.
In a statement the Mayo outfit said: "Crossmolina Deel Rovers are devastated at the news of the tragic incident that has occurred.
"Our heartfelt thoughts are with the family and friends at this difficult time.
"We have been in contact with our members involved, and they have requested that we all understand their need for privacy at this incredibly difficult time.

"Our Intermediate All-Ireland Final game, scheduled for this Sunday the 12th has been postponed and we will announce a rescheduled fixture once confirmed.
"Our club will be issuing no further statement at this time."
