Earlier in the tournament, The Magician hit a stunning 147 during his semi-final triumph over Mark Allen.

Earlier today
Mark Williams cursed his bad luck when he was dumped out of the Masters by Ding Junhui 6-5 this afternoon.
He said: “The only reason I’ve lost at the end there is the run of the ball,” reflected two-time winner Williams.
“All the way through he had some really nice nudges. Fair play to him, he made the breaks. I’ve had plenty of nudges in my career, none as good as that mind!
“I put him under pressure with that clearance [to go 5-4 up] then he’s lashed at a long red, left them everywhere and I couldn’t fail to win the match but the red blocked the other red.
“He must have stuck his hand up 10 or 11 times to say sorry in those last couple of frames. But that’s the fine margins.
“This is the best venue we play in. It will be a sad day when I’m not playing here anymore.”
What next for Selby?
He has to wait to find out his quarter final opponent.
But he knows he'll face either Mark Allen or Si Jiahui in the last-eight.
They play in tomorrow night's session, with world number four Allen expected to progress....
Final word
The final word of the night for Mark Selby then, who has struggled in this competition having once won three times in the span of six years a decade ago.
But he hasn't been deep in the competition much since.
He added: “I try every year but the tournament is so tough, every match could be a final.
“So not being beyond the quarters for some time isn’t always to do with bad snooker. Just sometimes people are better than me on the day and you have to hold your hands up.
“Hopefully I can carry on playing well and get to that stage again.”
Carter reacts
Ali Carter admitted after the game that Selby 'strangled' him and that he 'wanted to get out of there'.
A gutted Carter told BBC: “The debrief was Mark was really good and I was absolutely rubbish.
“He does what he does really well which was sort of strangle me a bit really, zapped me of confidence and I just wanted to get out of there in the end. Very disappointing.”
Great quip
Shaun Murphy was on commentary and reckoned Selby was right back on his game, the sort of form that saw him dominate the sport.
But Selby quipped that Murphy 'talks rubbish', referencing his incredible sporting "feat".
Murphy claims to be the only person to have achieved a nine-darter, a 147 break AND a hole-in-one in golf.
Asked about Murphy's praise, Selby quipped: “Yeah but he talks a lot of rubbish, Shaun. He reckons he’s had a 9-darter as well!"
More from The Jester
Selby revealed he was pleased to have dealt with the pressure of playing in front of a 'raucous' crowd having done so well behind closed doors last week.
He said: “The crowd here are always amazing. It’s a very different atmosphere from Sheffield.
"That’s more intense and this is more raucous, so it’s great to have a mix of the two!
“I played in the Championship League last week, and I know there’s no crowd and maybe not so much pressure as out here. But I was hitting the balls well and it’s nice to actually carry that on and take it into a tournament as big as this.
“You’re only human and you can easily come out here and collapse. It’s a lot of pressure.”
Selby reacts
Mark Selby reckons the second frame victory was pivotal to see him kicking clear to win comfortably in the end.
He told BBC's coverage: “Overall I can’t complain!
“I think the second frame was big. I was 40-odd behind with the balls really scrappy and had no right to win the frame.
“But I nicked that one and then went on to be 3-0 and 4-0 ahead."
Selby wins!
Mark Selby 6-1 Ali Carter
Honestly, what another incredible visit from Selby, to clear from that position and pinch the frame by a few points.
He's been so so good tonight, Selby. I'm thrilled for him as he's showing the type of form that had him leading the sport a few years ago.
A demolition job tonight in truth and he looks comfortable out there.
*Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter (25-55)
An ongoing break of 11 for Selby but I had to interrupt to say his ball control and positioning has been first class.
A stunning green sees the cue ball fall perfectly for the two reds clinging to the right cushion.
If he was allowed to pick up the cue ball and place it, he'd place it here. A real chance we could be done shortly, folks!
*Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter (14-55)
I thought the last red he missed was a bad one. This red into the left corner pocket for Carter was comfortable and misses by a bigger margin than the one before.
A drop of the head shows he knows that was a big opportunity and a simple pot. Gone to waste with just a break of 47.
Selby comes back then. Can he come back from a desperate situation and get back into this again?
Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter (14-8)
His turn breaks down with a break of seven, having missed the blue.
This frame has been a ridiculously tough watch, I must admit.
But Carter somehow has a THIRD chance to get going in this...
*Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter (7-8)
Oh my. Carter sinks a red before taking that stray black, firing the cue ball into the reds.
He has left one on but it's a tricky shot as he needs to hit it on the left of the cue ball.
But it's no exaggeration to say he's missed it by a MILE into the right corner pocket. He drags his feet and his cue as he trudges back to his chair.
Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter* (7-0)
He might be regretting that now, MISSING the black into the yellow pocket!
Carter with a dream opportunity now.
*Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter (6-0)
And he smashes open the reds via a pot on the blue.
That makes things interesting.
*Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter (1-0)
Carter takes on a tricky red into the right corner pocket and over-cuts it.
It's left Selby with an immediate chance to put a score together.
Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter (0-0)
And Selby gets to break in frame seven. The final frame tonight?
We'll see.
Mark Selby 5-1 Ali Carter
I can't put into words how utterly impressive that was from Selby.
Carter missed a red into the yellow pocket and gave Selby a little bit of a sniff.
Selby showed several incredible shots in her arsenal to keep the break going, ultimately CLEARING for a break of 126.
Brilliant snooker from the Jester. He needs one more to move into the next round.
Mark Selby 4-1 Ali Carter (0-0)
Carter to break in frame six. Another one for him and it might get interesting...
Mark Selby 4-1 Ali Carter
He does take the frame, Carter.
Selby doing all the hard work to get back into the frame having needed snookers.
Carter with a huge puff of the cheeks as he takes his seat. He's avoided the whitewash!
Or is it the start of something bigger?
Mark Selby 4-0 Ali Carter* (55-73)
Oh no!! Selby plays the blue along the bottom cushion towards the left corner pocket.
It hits the jaws and stays up, just over the pocket! Terrible miss and Carter will take the frame!
*Mark Selby 4-0 Ali Carter (46-73)
Stunning pot from Selby into the green pocket, right in front of Carter.
He follows it up with a green into the left centre pocket. But that now means he's 27 behind going into the colours - so just 27 remaining. Taking a chance but he's backing himself.
Mark Selby 4-0 Ali Carter* (42-73)
Selby with the chance with a long pot but he's not accurate this time as it bounces away to safety.
The next error in this frame is a fatal one and it's playing out like that.
*Mark Selby 4-0 Ali Carter (42-73)
ANOTHER Carter foul as he misses the red from another Selby snooker and the cue ball ends up in the pocket too.
Very much frame on once again.
*Mark Selby 4-0 Ali Carter (38-73)
Carter has MISSED the red! Wow, Selby is back in this one again!
Surely not. Surely.
Mark Selby 4-0 Ali Carter* (34-73)
Selby's snooker is behind the blue.
One red to play for now.
