Why Las Vegas and the Ashes help make 2025 a pivotal year for rugby league
WELCOME to the year the Aussies come to town – hopefully - and Super League searches for the jackpot in Vegas.
2025 promises big things. The definite being Wigan taking on Warrington in Sin City on March 1 – the biggest development in the sport since the advent of summer rugby.
The NRL has made big moves to conquer the home of the NFL. Now Americans will see what many call ‘the greatest game’ is available much closer to their doorsteps.
Here’s hoping RL Commercial is all over this. Meetings with potential sponsors, broadcasters and even American Football, basketball and ice hockey teams should already be in diaries.
This is not just a showcase – England women’s Test with Australia’s Jillaroos is too. It is an opportunity that simply cannot be allowed to go to waste.
One deal for either club or Super League would make it all worthwhile. This is the year we show our talents – now to show we literally mean business.
While Vegas is definite, the Ashes series must still, unfortunately, stay in the probable category.
Ideally, dates and venues should be confirmed this month, before a competitive ball is played. Giving fans something to look forward to at the end of the season.
And given the performances of Shaun Wane’s side in the series whitewashes over Tonga and Samoa – no pushovers by any stretch – the Aussies should rightly be the next target.
OK, winning the Ashes may be the equivalent of conquering Mount Everest but more than 6,000 people have reached the top of the world.
