LEI PEIFAN beat Wu Yize to make the Scottish Open the first title of his fledgling career.

Lei, 21, stunned snooker star Mark Allen on Saturday night in the semi-final before a strong performance against his fellow countryman on the final.

Wu lost the first four frames of the final before fighting back to win four of the next five to keep it competitive - but Lei found his nerve to win the £100,000 top prize.

  • Brecel 0-0 Xiao (41-8)

Brecel handles the plant well after not making it apart of his initial plan.

He may have over-screwed here. This is very awkward cueing but Brecel is pulling it off beautifully.

    It's death or glory snooker.

  • Brecel 0-0 Xiao (0-8)

Brecel has only made two centuries this season - and both have come at the Scottish Open.

Xiao makes a costly mistake with the blue and Brecel enters the fray.

  • Next up: Luca Brecel against Guodong Xiao

Xiao leads his head-to-head with Brecel 3-2 and, despite his opponent’s higher official ranking, will probably start this affair as the favourite.

  • Alan McManus and Jimmy White:

"We can't really find any negatives about Wu. It's incredible. He's self taught as well.

"He just works with his dad.

"And he's only 21 years young."

Wu asked his dad to "help" him change his tip after he "lost the shape of the screwback" went 2-0 down to Chris Wakelin.

The changeover clearly worked - as the China international came back to win 5-4.

  • Wakelin is OUT!

    Wakelin 5-5 Wu

Wakelin went 2-0 up but Wu turned things around.

The Brit has played exceptionally well but missed a big key shot that he ultimately should've taken in the deciding frame.

Wu will face the winner of Luca Brecel vs Xiao Guodong.

  • Wakelin 4-4 Wu (6-55)

Wu is in full control now. He only needs one more red.

  • Wakelin 4-4 Wu (6-47)

Wow! Wu misses his early chance to take ultimate command in this final frame by missing the blue.

    Can Wakelin build some points?

No, he misses a straight forward blue. The Brit looks devastated.

Wu switches to his left hand to open up the reds.

  • Wakelin 4-4 Wu (0-7)

A wonderful shot from Wu gets us underway in the final frame decider.

He then leaves it perfectly for the blue. It's all about pace right now, and it's looking good.

    An excellent positional shot.

  • Wakelin 4-4 Wu (118-13)

The only points Wu summoned in that frame came from Wakelin fouls!

    It's down to a decider!

    The 1

The International Championship finalist produces a timely 103 to take us the distance!

  • Wakelin 3-4 Wu (26-6)

Wakelin's working hard to stay in this clash - he can't lose this frame or he'll be heading home.

He pots the blue and black amid a flurry of reds and now a yellow.

One of those cuts on the middle red was quite beautiful.

Wu have six points from an earlier Wakelin foul.

  • Wakelin 3-4 Wu

The 21-year-old moves within one frame of the semi-finals.

  • Wakelin 3-3 Wu (0-64)

Wu on a roll here. The red has just come to cover the pink, looks like it's coming down to the run-in.

He just about gets the right side of the blue on the next move.

He's missed the pink a few times today but that time is was entirely academic.

  • Wakelin 3-3 Wu (9-73)

His next colour is frame ball!

We'll he was without it going into the bunch, but the Chinese ace has levelled things here in Edinburgh.

It feels like a final frame decider to us!

Wakelin will feel unfortunate not to capitalise on Wu's error, with a bad run of the ball.

  • Wakelin 3-2 Wu (9-48)

Just as we predicted, Wu comes back after Wakelin fails to jump on the missed cue from the Chinese ace.

Both playing well here but Wu has plenty of insurance with multiple reds hanging around.

  • Wakelin 3-2 Wu (8-0)

Wu makes another expensive mistake touching the red without any real harm made.

He's looking at his cue tip AGAIN!

If Wakelin had handed on one there, 4-2 was on the offering.

  • Wakelin 3-2 Wu

The Englishman is two frames away from the semi-finals.

But Wu will pull something out of his pocket, I am sure.

Wakelin hits another half-century to go one up.

  • Wakelin 2-2 Wu (57-12)

Wakelin turns it around. He's surely edging back in front here.

It all came from Wu knocking in the black and planting a red into the centre, and been allowed to kill this frame off.

Average frame time is 15.5 minutes.

  • Wakelin 2-2 Wu (7-12)

What a shot to come back from the interval from! A terrific opening red is followed up by a brilliant positional shot.

He then opens up on the red to the black and a direct plant to the middle. But he fouls.

Wu hasn't left anything easy on though for Wakelin, who missed his first red and Wu is back on the table.

  • Jimmy Write's predictions

"I think Wu will do it. I know he went 2-0 behind but I think he wins this and goes through to the semi-final."

  • Wakelin 2-2 Wu

Wakelin concedes! What a quarter-final this is turning into.

Wu's back-to-back runs of 82 and 71 breaks has him back in this clash.

It came after Wakelin opened with a century in the first frame, and 52 in the second.

In the break, Wu's dad told him to get the tip of cue checked before the fourth frame.

    We head into the interval...

  • Wakelin 2-1 Wu (21-72)

After an impressive run, Wu pots the cue ball and hands four points to Wakelin.

The Brit has a mountain to climb to win this frame.

  • Wakelin 2-1 Wu (9-21)

Wu’s safety doesn’t work out when he leaves sight of a red close to middle right.

Wakelin finds the perfect weight to fire it down from baulk and land with a nice angle on the black, but he is unfortunate with his attempt to shave a few reds free as a consequence of the ensuing pot.

    Wu at the table...

  • Wakelin 2-1 Wu

Perfect response from Wu - it's a really lovely break from Wu to get himself quickly back into this match.

He gets lucky with one shot that rattles in but then hits a couple of decent reds around the table to get himself on the scoreboard.

Wu will take a lot of confidence from that frame after what had been a shaky start with a couple of poor misses.

He can't quite hit a century as he misses a red on 82 but that was excellent stuff.

This match is rattling along at a very quick pace.

  • Wakelin 2-0 Wu

After falling behind to as much as 32-9, Wakelin pots a flurry of shots.

He's now putting them away and edging closer to going 2-0 up in the first quarter-final.

Wu can only hit and watch, waiting for a mistake from the Brit.

And there it comes, Wakelin misses the cut on the blue and he's applauded by the fans at the break.

But Wu decides not to return after a brief pause to contemplate his hopes of somehow clawing it back.
