Girona vs Liverpool preview

Well-rested Liverpool arrive in Spain looking to continue their outstanding start to the 2024-25 Champions League.

Arne Slot's side are top of the 36-team league table having won all five of their matches, making them the only side to still boast a 100% record in the competition.

Victory over Girona at the Estadi Montilivi will all but ensure their progression to the last 16 with two games to spare.

And they should feel confident of securing a positive result given Saturday's Merseyside derby was postponed due to severe weather.

There's numerous other reasons why Liverpool will expect to win.

The Reds have won their last 10 group/league phase matches in the Champions League in a row, while Slot has already broken the record for the longest winning start by a manager of an English club in the competition.

They're also up against a Girona side enduring a difficult spell.

Michel's side are 30th in the Champions League table with just one victory from five games - and that came as 2/9 favourites against Slovan Bratislava in October.

They have also failed to win any of their last four competitive games, including a disastrous penalty-shootout exit in the Copa del Rey against fourth-tier Logrones.

It looks as though Girona will be one of the 12 clubs eliminated from the UCL in the league phase, especially with AC Milan and Arsenal left to play after this midweek clash.
