Littler, 17, is a boyhood fan of the Red Devils and insisted that he got a message of encouragement from the retired manager.

However, the teenager admitted that he struggled to "understand" the 82-year-old Scotsman.

He told The Telegraph: "I didn’t really understand him.

"I did hear him say, ‘stick at it’."

Ferguson is not the only Man United icon that Littler has dealt with since he emerged onto the darts circuit.

He has also received messages from David Beckham who has slid into his DMs.

The darts star also encountered F1 driver Lando Norris, who drove him around Silverstone.

Littler has insisted he is trying to be himself despite being in the spotlight.

He said: "No one has really told me how to be me – I’m just myself."
