Jayson Shaw beat opposing captain Skyler Woodward 5-0 to extend the continent's lead by five points, getting their night off to a flyer at 10-5.

Fedor Gorst pulled a point back before Francisco Sanchez Ruiz beat Woodward 5-4 himself to seal the win.

And after Ruiz hit the final ball, him and his team-mates climbed on the table and started dancing to the tune of Freed From Desire in front of a gutted US crowd.

All five members of the European team jumped onto the table, putting the strength of its legs to the test.

One player was also seen pocketing one of the balls to keep as a memento.

This marked a major triumph for Shaw, who won the trophy at the first time of asking as captain.

The Scot said: "I just want to say thank you to everyone who came and watched.

"It has been stressful. It has been a lot more work this year. We worked on a late of things before this.
