  • Snooker Shoot Out 2024 rules and format

Snooker Shoot Out is a unique tournament which puts players up against the clock.

Matches last a maximum of 10 minutes, with a shot clock of 15 seconds for the first five minutes and just 10 seconds for the final five.

    Here are the key rules:

    • Each frame lasts a maximum of 10 minutes.
    • Shot clock stops players from wasting time.
    • The first five minutes of the frame = 15 seconds per shot.
    • The second five minutes of the frame = 10 seconds per shot.
    • Five-point penalty (or value of pink or black if attempted) for failing to play a shot within the allocated time.
    • Players must hit a cushion with any ball or pot a ball with every shot.
    • All fouls give the opponent the ball in hand.
    • Similar to pool, players "lag" for break-off with white played from the baulk line off the top cushion.
    • The nearest to the baulk cushion wins the lag.
    • A blue ball shoot-out settles tied matches with players aiming to pot blue off its spot from within the "D" to a top pocket.
    • Flukes do not count on the final blue.
  • What is the Snooker Shoot Out 2024 prize money?

The total prize pot for this year's Snooker Shoot Out will be a whopping £171,000.

And the winner is set to take home £50,000 of that lump sum - just like Mark Allen did last year.

There will also be a reward for the player who achieves the highest break in the tournament.

Here is the full prize money breakdown:

  • What has been said?

Reigning champion Mark Allen hit out at the 'embarrassing' commentary after he won the Snooker Shoot Out last year.

The Northern Irish star said: "Thought Neal Foulds commentary was embarrassing.

"There’s a big difference between being handed chances and creating the.

"By the way, I actually like @fouldsy147 but I thought he was wrong in comms last night.

    • Zhou Yuelong 115-0 Louis Heathcote
    • Ali Carter 50-19 Lyu Haotian
    • Mark Selby 73-8 Jak Jones
  • Home advantage counts for nothing

Joe O'Connor was relishing playing in Leicester this week.

However, Allan Taylor didn't seem to get the memo.

He established a large lead and although O'Connor had one chance to make it count, a missed pot cost him his place in the tournament.

  • Late drama in shock result

Andrew Higginson pulled off the result of the evening.

Trailing by some 50 points with a minute remaining, he went on a sped-up potting spree to shock everyone.

With the last pot of the game on the blue, he sealed his place in the last 32 to win 57-55.

  • Experience gained but exit confirmed

Bai Yulu was hoping to shock the snooker world with a victory today against Zhang Anda.

After her impressive win in the first round, not many could rule out the chance of it happening in this format.

Sadly, Zhang Anda took it all his stride to win by 65-12.

  • Changing of the Welsh guard

Ryan Day met Dylan Emery in an all Welsh encounter.

Emery, 22 years the younger, managed a comfortable victory against his compatriot.

He moved into the last 32 with a 55-19 victory.

  • Flying the home flag for Leicester

Tom Ford booked his place in the last-32 after victory against Paul Deaville.

After the match, when asked about his preparation for this game, Ford replied 'I went for a bottomless brunch with my mates and I'm off to meet them after I finish here now'.

    Proper lad vibes from Tom.

  • Mark Selby beats Jak Jones

  • Mark Selby (ENG) 40-8 Jak Jones (WAL)

This is the one stand-out fixture on the last-64 card

You would not think this format would suit Selby's style but he is still a class act who can pot well.

He is on a break of 40 and does not seem likely to let up anytime soon.

  • Ali Carter beats Lyu Haotian

  • Ali Carter (ENG) 21-19 Lyu Haotian (CHI)

Carter is using all his lifelines here.

Twice Haotian should have gone on to score big breaks but has missed relatively simple pots.

This time he has really left Carter in but he is overstretching on a black and leaves himself terrible position on the red.

  • Ali Carter (ENG) 0-0 Lyu Haotian (CHI)

Haotian breaks and leaves the cue ball close to the baulk.

Carter shows the mentality for this tournament as he opts to play safe rather than taking a long pot on.

This could be one of those hybrid chess-snooker games we have on our hands here.

  • Zhou Yuelong beats Louis Heathcote

  • Zhou Yuelong (CHI) 115-0 Louis Heathcote (ENG)

There is just nothing Heathcote could do about this.

Some brilliant snooker from Yuelong as he just pots the yellow to get his century break.

    Brilliant stuff from Zhou Yuelong.

  • Zhou Yuelong (CHI) 14-0 Louis Heathcote (ENG)

Heathcote seemed to be taking the sport back to the 1980s before his game this evening.

He was spotted in the crowd having a pint with his mates a couple of games ago.

We will see if it improves his potting tonight.

  • Ma Hailong beat Lewis Ullah

  • Ma Hailong (CHI) 57-46 Lewis Ullah (ENG)

This nearly turned into another blinding encounter.

Hailong took an early lead and just added to it to seemingly have one foot in the last-32.

With just 47 seconds remaining, Ullah had a chance and needed all the remaining balls on the table.

He ran out of time with just pink and black remaining,

  • Ma Hailong (CHI) 0-0 Lewis Ullah (ENG)

Hailong is a former junior champion but has yet to transfer that talent to the senior tour.

He is playing quite an unknown entity in Ullah this evening.

Hopefully we will see another open potting spree.

  • Tom Ford beat Paul Deaville

  • Tom Ford (ENG) 72-10 Paul Deaville (ENG)

Ford uses all his experience to see him through in this one.

One simple mistake on a safety cost Deaville dearly.

Nobody will fancy coming up against Tom Ford in this format.

  • Tom Ford (ENG) 0-1 Paul Deaville (ENG)

Ford gifts a chance to the youngster from the break here.

Deaville looks to take advantage but rattles the black in the bottom corner.

With no much on, Ford opts to go safe and leave the cue ball up the table near the baulk cushion.
