Wakefield Trinity player David Fifita brands Garry Schofield an ‘idiot’ – but the rugby league legend is not backing down

WAKEFIELD ace David Fifita and rugby league legend Garry Schofield have become involved in a war of words – after one described the other as an ‘idiot’.
The Trinity player posted a video online after their win over Leigh showing the ex-Great Britain man’s prediction that if they are soft, like they were at Leeds the week before, the Centurions will tear them apart.
Fifita later appears on camera describing Schofield as an ‘idiot’, saying: Thanks for the motivation, you idiot."
But Schofield, who won the Golden Boot making him the best player in the world in 1990, is less than impressed and hit back.
He said: “Boasting to a former Golden Boot winner that you had a good half against Leigh is akin to screaming in Usain Bolt’s face that you can outpace your nan over 30 metres.
“He’s inconsistent and when he’s not on his game, he’s little more than a waste of space. One day he might actually fulfil his potential.
“Do Fifita and the Wakefield forwards genuinely believe that they didn’t deserve criticism for their shambolic performance at Leeds?
“I don’t mind being called an idiot. I’ve been called far worse by much better players than Fifita!”
Aussie Fifita, 27, was not spared the wrath of Wakefield coach Chris Chester after their hammering at Leeds, when he described some of his players as ‘dishonest’.
And Schofield wonders if his comments about him reflect his attitude towards his boss.
He added in his column in League Express: “Even Chris Chester slammed them after the debacle against Leeds, calling some of the players dishonest. I wonder if Fifita also thinks Chester is an idiot?
“Watching him send out a video like that after a good second-half performance at home to Leigh is embarrassing.”
