MICHAEL VAN GERWEN believes that Gary Anderson is one of the big names who can stop the Lukes dominating darts.

The mighty Dutchman is convinced that Luke Humphries and Luke Littler can be dethroned by the former title winners.

With just over a fortnight until the World Championship, MVG reckons that former world champs Anderson, Michael Smith, Gerwyn Price and himself can still topple the new superstars.

Van Gerwen, 35, said: “When everyone is catching up you are going to get more interesting games.

“Gary Anderson is playing more, I didn’t see a good Michael Smith yet this year, not a good Michael van Gerwen or Gerwyn Price.

“When everyone starts to kick in their form, it will be more interesting to watch.

“From my point it’s great, more competitors, more interesting for people to watch.

"More viewers and more money in the game, the bigger the sport is going to get.”

Van Gerwen won a record 25 titles in one season compared to Littler’s ten and Humphries’ seven in 2024.

But he added: “It was different with me, Phil Taylor and before that Eric Bristow.

"But that’s how darts is. It’s more close to watch and more different winners now. You have to deal with the situation.

“He (Littler) may be playing really well. Of course he’s had an insane year but how many tournaments has Humphries won? Seven?

“I only have to look at myself.

"How many have I won? Four. Oi oi oi!”
