Ando, 53, looks hungry to finally win his favourite tournament and will face Littler for the first time in the last four this afternoon.

He said: “I stuck in there. I thought if I win my throw I’ll be alright. Some of the darts were a mile off.

“I started the first leg with five. That does the confidence the world of good!

“When I got in front I just wanted to hold my throw and you should be alright.

“When it got to 14-13 I thought I had to hold or I was up the Clyde without any paddle. We got there in the end.”

Anderson light-heartedly joked that he would give Littler a whack before they went on stage, just like the famous old clash between Jocky Wilson and Eric Bristow in 1983.

The legendary Scot kicked Brissy in the shins and drew blood before they clashed in a typically bruising Scotland v England battle.

On facing Littler on Sunday afternoon, he said: “Luke was different gravy, class. I might just give him a hard kick in the shins before I come on.

“That’s being polite. Where I come from the shins is the last place you kick them!

“He’s absolutely mustard. You’ve got Luke Humphries. You’ve got young Luke Littler.

“It could be bad. If old Gary turns up he might not get what he wants. Santa doesn’t always turn up you know.

“The way it looks, he’s good. Let’s give it a go. The amount of 180s he had to his average, he should have been 125-plus. There’s a wee slippy in between to pick up on where he’s making his mistakes. There’s not many.”

Anderson is also not worried about the fans singing “Scotland get battered everywhere they go”.

He added: “Listen I’ve done this for a long time. Do I give two flying…I’ve heard the songs. I’ve seen the proof. They are singing the wrong song. You know what I mean!”
