Taylor vs Serrano: Controversial clash sets stage for trilogy

The highly anticipated fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano delivered plenty of drama but was overshadowed by controversy when Taylor appeared to land an illegal headbutt, leaving Serrano with a significant cut.

Despite the setback, Taylor extended her unbeaten record to 2-0 against Serrano but has hinted that a trilogy fight could be on the cards, offering Serrano a chance at revenge.

Meanwhile, Serrano has criticised the decision, pointing out that she landed 107 more punches than Taylor, who also received a point deduction, leaving fans divided on the outcome.

One thing is certain: this is far from the final chapter in the rivalry between these two fighters.

KSI labels Jake Paul fight as 'elderly abuse'

Jake Paul's fierce rival KSI is in disbelief that the huge Netflix showdown was sanctioned to go ahead.

Mike Tyson looked every one his 58 years in the ring as he slumped to a unanimous decision loss while Paul, 27, appeared to be holding back.

KSI said: "What a sad watch," he wrote on his Instagram story. "Whole thing was sad.

"Mike is twice the age of Jake Paul ffs. It was never ever gonna be close.

"I can't believe that this elderly abuse was even sanctioned. Just disgusting."

Main event fighters face suspension

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have both been suspended following their highly anticipated bout.

The 58-year-old boxing legend fought fiercely in his first professional match since 2005, but ultimately, the 31-year-younger Paul emerged victorious by unanimous decision. Paul chose not to knock out Tyson in the final rounds, despite the veteran tiring.

Paul has stated that it was Tyson who pushed for the fight to be officially sanctioned and recorded. However, due to the circumstances surrounding the match, both fighters have now been suspended.

Serrano on the head-butting

Last night's show-stealing fight sparked controversy when Katie Taylor appeared to land an illegal headbutt, causing a severe cut on Amanda Serrano's head.

The Puerto Rican said: “I knew when it went to the judges it was going to be a little shady.

“Listen, I chose to fight. I went up three divisions. I lost in two and I dared to be great tonight. I am the featherweight champion of the world. I want to be great. I only fight the best. It is what it is. I’m a featherweight.

“Every time you get a cut it hurts. You get blood in your eye. She kept headbutting me, but we knew that from the very beginning, the first fight. It’s not only my fight, she did it with Chantelle Cameron. Listen, I am Puerto Rican. No matter how many cuts, I will fight to the very end.

“I think 100% because she does it [uses head] in every fight. My first cut was with Katie Taylor. She did it with Chantelle Cameron. I’ve seen other fights where she uses her head, dirty. It is what it is.”

Eddie Hearn faces hostile reception at press conference

Eddie Hearn was initially told he was not welcome at Katie Taylor's press conference due to his ongoing legal dispute with Jake Paul.

However, he managed to take the stage after Taylor's manager threatened to walk out and boycott the media session.

Hearn and Paul are locked in a $100million lawsuit and will go head to head in front of a US judge next month after the Matchroom chief sued the Problem Child over comments about boxing judge Glenn Feldman.

Hearn can be seen telling someone off camera: "Okay then, we'll leave it [the press conference]," as a bemused Taylor started walking off.

He then told one of Taylor's team that "they just want the fighter" for the presser.

But manager Brian Peters was having none of it, hitting back: "Are you joking? Are you out of your mind?

"Everyone else gets three people up. Don't be acting."

Katie Taylor appears to confirm third matchup

Katie Taylor has appeared to confirm a final showdown with Amanda Serrano, where the Puerto Rican fighter will look to avenge her two previous losses to the Irish champion.

Taylor reflected on their previous encounter, saying: “It’s very hard to tell during the fight. I knew it was an absolute slugfest in there, an absolute war. Thank God I came out on the winning side,”

The undefeated champion went on to express her respect for her Serrano, adding: “Thank you to Amanda, she’s a fantastic champion. I think we agreed to 12, three-minute rounds in our next fight. The triple is on.”

The two fighters, who have already faced off twice in thrilling bouts, are now set to make history with a highly anticipated final encounter.

Another Netflix event on the horizon?

Despite a tepid and uninspiring main event fight, Mike Tyson said he is not finished yet, offering to fight his brother Logan Paul.

On his future, Paul said: "I will fight anyone I want, I crashed the Netflix site and made history. Everyone is on my list.

";Canelo needs me - he knows I am the money man."

How the fight unfolded

It was a classic from start to finish. Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano put every ounce of heart they had into their rematch and then some.

The pair delivered two-and-a-half years ago and they did so here again.

Serrano got on the front foot early on but struggled to pin Taylor down until she landed a bomb right on her chin at the end of the first.

Taylor got into her groove and started to counter in the second and a couple of rounds later came the head butt.

A clash of heads opened up a huge cut over the left eye of Amanda Serrano and from then on it was all out war.

Serrano continued to stomp forward but Taylor evaded her best shots, landing crisp counters herself.

In the eighth, Taylor had a point deduced and Serrano’s belief grew once again.

She had a strong ninth and an even better tenth but it was Taylor who had her opponent trapped in the corner at the end of the fight.

The scored read 95-94 three times in favour of Katie Taylor, much to the dismay of the 65,000 fans in attendance.

Money talks

Her last fight earned her between £!-3m.

Not bad for a night's work!

Hearn speaks

Katie Taylor's promoter Eddie Hearn elected to celebrated with his fighter rather than watch Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul.

"I didn't really watch it, I was in Katie Taylor's changing room," he said.

"I watched the first 30 seconds which were quite entertaining. After that it was horrible to watch.

"It was hard to watch and it was always going to be like that… Mike came out like a raging bull, but after that he was gassed. Mike's a legend and he showed a load of heart, but you just don't need to see it."

Gruesome business

Taylor rubs it in

She's having fun in that press conference is Katie Taylor.

More on Taylor's head butts

"It was a dirty fight. She used her head to her advantage. The ref didn't have control of the fight," Serrano's manager Nakisa Badarian said.

"She wouldn't stop with the holding and didn't stop with the head butts. The referee didn't protect her at all.

"Whatever Amanda wants to do, we will do next."

Hearn's reaction

Just look at the reaction from Eddie Hearn after Katie Taylor was announced as the winner.

Talk about passion.

Hearn has been Taylor's promoter for her entire career and was in away territory tonight.

Still not happy!

Amanda Serrano has taken to X to voice her frustration at losing on points to Katie Taylor earlier tonight.

Controversial win for Taylor

Fans have slammed Katie Taylor's controversial win over Amanda Serrano as "rigged".

The pair fought in a thrilling ten-round bout on the undercard of Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson.

Taylor vs Serrano was a rematch of their historic Madison Square Garden dust-up in 2022, which saw the Bray bruiser win via a split decision.

And the 38-year-old Irishwoman tasted victory again over her Puerto Rican rival despite a point deduction tonight.

Paul BEATS Tyson

Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in their eight-round contest.

The fight was a bit of a shambles, to be honest.

Tyson looked frail from the second round onwards and Paul looked hesitant to land anything too damaging on the heavyweight legend.

Taylor on the point deduction

She said: "Amanda's a hard puncher. A very tough warrior. I was prepared for that. I don't care if the commentary team or the crowd disagree with the result. The only ones who matter are the judges around the ring. So thank God.

"I definitely didn't agree with the point deduction. I certainly wasn't fighting dirty. Sometimes it gets rough in there.

"This is an amazing moment for women's boxing. We put on another amazing show."

Taylor on her win
