A BOXER was forced to have an impromptu MID-FIGHT trim in some truly hair-raising scenes.

The undefeated Austin DeAnda went into his middleweight clash with DeAundre Pettus on Friday night rocking a full set of hair, which he had braided before stepping into the ring.

But some buffeting blows from Pettus in the third round caused the braids to come loose and impaired DeAnda's vision.

The 21-year-old grew frustrated with his locks getting in the way, so much so that he asked his cornerman to "cut"; his barnet between the third and fourth rounds.

His cornerman, however, was left bamboozled by the request and initially hesitated.

He yelled: "I'm a cutman, not a barber!"

But he eventually gave in, chopping DeAnda's hair and leaving him with a bizarre look, which drew chuckles from the ringside commentators.

Footage of the unusual incident went viral, with one boxing fan saying: "Brings a new meaning to CUT into the ring."

Another said: "At least man got a free haircut."

And another said: "He cut off too much."

One remarked: "That’s must suck, it probably took effort for bro to grow that."

Another chimed in: "That’s gangster regardless of [the] outcome."

The scene was reminiscent of Paulie Malignaggi's impromptu trim during his 2008 rematch with Lovemore N'Dou.

The American's hair extensions kept swinging in front of his face, much to the annoyance of referee Mickey Vann.

And Malignaggi's trainer Buddy McGirt eventually cut them between the eighth and ninth rounds of the IBF welterweight title fight, which the 'Magic Man' won via split decision.

Anda's mid-fight trim clearly worked as he went on to rock DePettus several times on his way to earning a unanimous decision victory.

He'll no doubt be visiting an actual barber in the coming days to sort out his scissor-savaged hair, which he covered post-fight with a cap.
