  • 41 - GOAL! SHAKHTAR 2-1 Young Boys

Shakhtar have completed their first-half turnaround!

Heorhiy Sudakov has given them a 41st minute lead with an accurate low strike from the edge of the box following neat build-up play.

  • First half flicks

There's been no goals yet in Bruges but plenty of industry from both sides.

Here are some snaps from the first 45.

  • From Graeme Bryce at Jan Breydel Stadium

It's tense and it's tight in Bruges with the home side containing Aston Villa fairly comfortably.

Now they are beginning to show their teeth and Villa are fortunate not to go behind.

Emi Martinez shows why he's the world's No.1 with a stunning save to push Ferran Jutgla's shot onto the post.

Then follows it up by saving Christos Tzolis's rebound.

Villa need a goal to dampen Brugge's enthusiasm!

  • 31 - GOAL! SHAKHTAR 1-1 Young Boys

It's all happening at Veltins Arena!

Young Boys' lead lasted barely four minutes, with Oleksandr Zubkov levelling for the Ukrainians.

Zubkov won't score an easier goal all season! He got on the end of a square ball to prod home from barely a yard.

    Game on in Germany!

  • Brugge hit the post!

Blimey, Villa are lucky not to be behind on the half hour!

    First, Brugge struck the post.

They then managed to work the ball back to the edge of the box, before Emi Martinez was forced into a smart save down low!

  • 27 - GOAL! Shakhtar 0-1 YOUNG BOYS

We've had our first goal of the evening! And it's come at the Veltins Arena!

Kastriot Imeri pounced on the ball as Shakhtar attempted to play out from the back, before calmly rolling the ball into the back of the net, Young Boys lead!

  • Aston Villa double blow

Blimey, Villa have had both centre-backs booked in one go!

First Tyrone Mings was yellow carded for a late aerial challenge.

The decision enraged his defensive partner Diego Carlos, who has now also gone into the book for dissent!

  • Brugge-Villa latest

No sooner did I write that Villa were starting to have some joy, did Club Brugge begin to carve together some moves of their own... typical!

The hosts have come close a couple of times, but now it's Ollie Watkins' turn to nearly score!

This was by far the closest either side has come, with the England forward striking a pea-roller just wide of Simon Mignolet's goal.

  • First booking of the night

Our first yellow card of the night has gone to Club Brugge's Casper Nielsen.

Whether it's the jeering crowd's influence or otherwise, a few late challenges have already been made on Youri Tielemans.

This time the referee decides enough is enough, and flashes a yellow at Danish midfielder Nielsen.

  • Villa turning the screw

Aston Villa are starting to take control of this match as the clock hits the 15-minute mark.

Without creating loads, Unai Emery's men are starting to disrupt Club Brugge as they attempt to play out from the back.

Villa have won the ball high up the pitch on a few occasions, and may start to trouble their hosts should that trend continue.

  • Cagey start

There's been not much in the way of goal-mouth action thus far in Belgium.

As I type that, Youri Tielemans has delighted the boo boys by thwacking a shot from range miles over the bar.

In case you were wondering, Shakhtar and Young Boys are also locked at 0-0.

  • Villa star booed

If you thought this would be a friendly homecoming for Aston Villa's Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans, think again.

The 27-year-old spent his formative years at Club Brugge's league rivals Anderlecht, a fact their supporters have not forgotten.

Tielemans has been booed by fans every time he has touched the ball thus far.

  • Early stages

The home crowd are well up for it early doors and Aston Villa will have to remain composed this evening.

Saying that, there have been no major incidents in the opening five minutes.

  • From Graeme Bryce at Jan Breydel Stadium

Unai Emery handed Tyrone Mings a Champions League debut of fire, 15 months after his horror ACL injury at Newcastle.

It was a calculated gamble by the Villa boss who had every right to feel confident as he entered Club Brugge's atmospheric Jan Breydelstadion.

Unbeaten in four previous Champions League ties against Belgian opposition, he had won the last three with an aggregate score of 16-0.

Emery led Valencia to a 7-0 win over Genk in 2011 and followed that up with a 9-0 aggregate win when his Paris Saint Germain team steam-rollered Anderlecht in 2017.

Villa need to win by four goals to leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the Champions League.

But right now they'd probably accept any kind of positive result here.

  • Kick-off!

    Both games are underway!

Neither Club Brugge vs Aston Villa nor Shakhtar vs Young Boys will have been circled by even the most ardent of football fanatics as fixtures not to miss when the draw was made.

But who knows? Maybe they'll both be action packed.

Either way, I'll have all the action for you right here.

  • Elsewhere this evening...

While Aston Villa take on Club Brugge in Belgium, Shakhtar Donetsk will play Swiss side Young Boys at Schalke's Veltins Arena.

Both sides go into the match desperate for points, having collected just one between them thus far.

Defeat for either side could leave them on the brink.

We'll have all the action from both games, which are set to kick-off in around five minutes.

  • Club Brugge starting line-up

Now that we've seen the Villa team, let's take a look at their opponents Club Brugge.

Fans will be familiar with their goalkeeper, with the Belgians fielding former Liverpool and Sunderland stopper Simon Mignolet, now 36, between the sticks.

  • How Aston Villa line up

Unai Emery's side will take on Belgian outfit Club Brugge in one of the day's two early kick-offs.

Villa went into the week top of the Champions League league phase, and could make it four wins from four ahead of the bulk of tonight's games.

Here's how Emery has lined his men up for this evening's encounter in Belgium.

  • View from SunSport’s Martin Blackburn in Lisbon

    Who writes Ruben Amorim’s scripts?

A fairytale way to say goodbye to the home fans at the Jose Alvalade last night – and endear himself to the new ones at Old Trafford.

A night they will be talking about for years to come in this part of Lisbon.

And what about Viktor Gyokores – he even eclipsed Erling Haaland by scoring a hat-trick – while the Norwegian thumped a pen against the bar.

  • Emery looking to bounce back from defeat

Aston Villa took a heavy defeat on the chin on the weekend.

Despite going ahead in North London, Tottenham ran out as 4-1 winners in the Premier League.

Unai Emery’s side need to win if they want to leapfrog Liverpool at the top of the Champions League table.

  • Celtic keep qualification hopes alive

When Brendan Rodgers’ side got heavily beat against Borussia Dortmund, many expected yet another early exit from Europe’s elite competition.

Having amassed seven points from their first four games, Celtic are now well-placed to build on this and secure a place in the latter stages.

They showed grit and determination after going a goal down against RB Leipzig but turned the game around to run out 3-1 winners.

  • Villa look to build on historic Bayern win

Aston Villa make the short trip across the channel to take on Club Brugge tonight.

Jhon Duran was the hero once again for the West Midlands side as Unai Emery's men beat Bayern Munich 1-0 on a special night at Villa Park last month.

With two wins and two clean sheets in this monumental Champions League group, Villa are proving themselves well worthy of a place back on European football’s grandest stage.

Tonight, they hope to make it three.

    Kick off begins at 5.45pm.

  • Pep left frustrated in Portugal

Football can be a cruel mistress at times.

Man City dominated the first-half against Sporting Lisbon but did not take their chances and paid the ultimate price.

It means that Pep Guardiola’s side have now lost back-to-back games and the injuries are mounting up.

  • The curse of Kylian Mbappe

Signing arguably the best striker in the world seemed to make Real Madrid unbeatable given their current squad.

Mbappe’s career in Madrid has not taken off as many expected.

A player who has never won the Champions League, could his curse mean Ancelotti’s side miss out on the biggest trophy this season?

A heavy defeat at home against rivals Barcelona has been followed up by a 3-1 loss to AC Milan this evening.
