From Graeme Bryce at Jan Breydel Stadium
Tyrone Mings' moment of madness sucked the soul out of Villa who surrendered their 100 per cent Champions League record in the cruellest of fashions.
Mings' decision to reach out with his left hand and handle in his own box at a goal kick to concede a controversial penalty was unfortunate.
But sympathy will be in short supply for the big defender who blundered badly to gift Brugge the breakthrough they craved.
From Jordan Davies at San Siro
One of football's great cauldrons and the venue of one of Arsenal's greatest ever victories in Europe back in 2003 as the Invincibles ran out 5-1 winners.
How Mikel Arteta and his out-of-form bunch would cherish a result like that to reignite their season after one win in their last four in the Prem leaves them off the pace.
The atmosphere is electric, and there is an expectancy from the home fans for Inter Milan to put on a show with the Gunners vulnerable and nervy.
Edu scored that night in 2003, and with the Brazilian Invincible leaving his Sporting Director post this week, Arsenal need another Invincible style performance.
Bayern vs Benfica delayed
Bayern Munich's clash with Benfica has been delayed by 15 minutes and will now kick off at 8:15pm.
That's because of issues with local transport.
England captain Harry Kane starts for the German giants.

FULL TIME: Shakhtar 2-1 Young Boys
Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk are off the mark in this season's Champions League!
They had to do it the hard way, after falling behind to Kastriot Imeri's 27th minute opener.
Goals by Oleksandr Zubkov and Heorhiy Sudakov completed the turnaround before half-time.
FULL TIME: Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa
The underdogs from Belgium have done it!
Aston Villa's 100 per cent Champions League record has been left in tatters thanks to Hans Vanaken's 52nd minute penalty.
Keep it here for the all the reaction.
Stoppage time revealed
Five minutes have been added on at Jan Breydel Stadium...
It's now or never for Villa.
Kamara shoots wide
Boubacar Kamara has fired a low effort wide of Simon Mignolet's post.
Villa have just two minutes plus stoppage time left to find an equaliser.
Do Unai Emery's side have it in them?
Villa chasing an equaliser
Aston Villa are starting to camp in Club Brugge's half.
But as of yet, they are not exactly peppering Simon Mignolet's goal.
Is an equaliser coming?
Entering the final 15
Aston Villa have 15 minutes left to rescue something at Jan Breydel Stadium.
It's not looking likely as it stands, with Jhon Duran having hardly touched the ball since replacing John McGinn.
Elsewhere, Shakhtar still lead Young Boys 2-1.
From Graeme Bryce at Jan Breydel Stadium
OMG!
Villa have conceded one of the craziest goals in the club's 150 year history - from their own goal kick!
Martinez rolled the ball to Mings who picked the ball up and placed it in the corner of the six yard box to presumably take it himself.
But credit the razor-sharp Brugge players who spotted an opportunity and frantically claimed for a penalty for handball.
German referee Robias Stieler agreed Mings should have known the ball was in play and penalised Villa's comeback man who couldn't believe his misfortune.
Hans Vanaken calmly sent Martinez the wrong way from the spot and Brugge find themselves ahead in the most bizarre circumstances.
Penalty incident snaps
Here are some pictures of Mings' crucial gaffe.
Was this the correct decision?
Latest scores:
Club Brugge still lead Aston Villa 1-0, and in all truth the Premier League side have not looked like equalising since falling behind in the 52nd minute.
Elsewhere, Shakhtar still lead Young Boys 2-1 following their first-half turnaround.
Club Brugge 1-0 Aston Villa
Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 Young Boys
Unai Emery fuming
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is seriously unhappy about the penalty decision.
Minutes later he took the opportunity to chirp at the referee.
But his complaining won't change anything, Club Brugge lead 1-0.
Club Brugge well on top
Aston Villa are looking shellshocked!
They had already performed under-par prior to the penalty decision.
But the spot kick controversy has Club Brugge even more on top!
It looks like Unai Emery is about to turn to familiar super-sub Jhon Duran...
Penalty incident explained
Emi Martinez stood over a goal kick, which he passed out to Tyrone Mings.
The centre-half then picked up the ball, as if to place back down to take the goal kick himself.
The referee, however, deemed Martinez to have taken the goal kick already, therefore deeming that Mings handballed!
Following a quick VAR check the call was confirmed, much to Unai Emery's bewilderment.
Club Brugge lead!
52 - GOAL! CLUB BRUGGE 1-0 Aston Villa
Hans Vanaken makes no mistake from the penalty spot, Club Brugge lead!
But what a bizarre penalty incident...
PENALTY! Disaster for Mings!
This is a controversial one... Club Brugge have a penalty!
Second halves underway!
Proceedings in Belgium and Germany have recommenced!
Who will break the deadlock in Bruges?
And can Young Boys find a way back against Shakhtar?
From Graeme Bryce at Jan Breydel Stadium
Villa made it to half-time intact but, despite enjoying more than 60 per cent of possession, they have ridden their luck at times with Brugge rattling off five shots on target to the visitors' one.
One player in the Brugge ranks looks a stand-out as 20-year-old Ecuadorian defender Joel Ordonez is handling Ollie Watkins well and looks comfortable on the ball coming forward.
I suspect we might just see him in the Prem one day.
Meanwhile it's time for Unai Emery to work his magic during a crucial half-time team-talk.
Former England star unimpressed
Darren Anderton clearly didn't enjoy that first half...
Shakhtar vs Young Boys stats

It's half-time in both our early games, and Aston Villa have much work to do if they are to continue their 100 per cent start in the Champions League.
Unai Emery's side are level at 0-0, but were lucky not to go behind to Club Brugge.
Elsewhere, Shakhtar have recovered from a one-goal deficit to lead Young Boys 2-1.
