Fifteen years before he lifted the title in Sheffield, the Essex potter had an embarrassing episode while facing the six-time world finalist, one of the biggest names in the sport.

It came days after he had eliminated defending champion Stephen Hendry from the first round on his first-ever appearance in the Mecca of the sport.

Speaking on , the World No. 25 said: “I remember at the Crucible, my first time after I beat Hendry, I played Jimmy…and I farted!

"I remember going back to my chair. I farted. Played a shot and it was foul and a miss.

"I stood back to the chair and I saw Jimmy just move away from the chair.

"He looked at me and went: “Was that you?” And I went: 'Oh, I’m sorry.'

";Then the ref caught it and he moved to the other side. One of those silent but deadly ones!"

Last week Bingham was knocked out of the Northern Ireland Open in the third round when he lost 4-3 to Shaun Murphy, the guy he beat when he claimed a maiden world title in 2015.

He will next be in action at the International Championship in Nanjing, China against Thepchaiya Un-Nooh on Monday.

Earlier this year, Bingham opened up on his love for pool - and how it keeps his income topped up when his snooker game goes cold.

He told SunSport: "I love playing all year round.

"It’s nice to have family holidays but if there’s a tournament to play, I’ll be there.

"I’d rather be playing snooker but if I don’t qualify for an event and there is a pool event on, I will play pool.

"Pool is a bit more relaxed. But when you get on the table, you want to win, you want to pot the balls.
