  • Hosts manage to keep Palmer in the cold

When you play against Chelsea, you have to find an answer to the Cole Palmer question.

Liverpool managed to do this well today.

The Chelsea youngster contributes towards The Blues' goal tally so often, only three players have contributed more in their first 40 games for their clubs.

Andy Cole, Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland are the exceptions to the rule.

  • Slot feels things could have been different

The Liverpool manager gave his overview on the win at Anfield.

Maybe I am a bit biased, we were unlucky with some of the decisions that were made. If the referee looks at the incident for over a minute, it is clear that VAR should not have overruled the referee's decision [for the penalty]. In the end we win against a very strong Chelsea. The referee was right to give me a yellow card, it was obvious, just like the penalty.

  • This means more

Despite still being in the early stages of his Liverpool career, Arne Slot's Reds seem to have some grit about them.

Heads could have dropped after Jackson equalised early in the second half but they took all of three minutes to retake the lead.

The emotions from the players at the full-time whistle shows just how much they want to win every game they play.

  • Reds leading way at top

Liverpool ensure that Man City's stay at the top of the table is short-lived.

Nobody tipped The Reds to be challenging this season and saw a period of transition ahead after the departure of Jurgen Klopp.

While it is still early days, the Dutch manager has had a perfect start to the season with ten wins from his first eleven games in the job.

  • Maresca keeps building at bridge

The games continue to come thick and fast for The Blues.

With European, Premier League and cup matches laying ahead.

They face Newcastle in both the league and the Carabao Cup over the next five games as well as a trip to Old Trafford.

Enzo Maresca will have seen a lot of positives today and will be looking to win as many of those games as possible.

  • Reds keep ticking the boxes

With a tough run of games ahead, this always seemed like a crucial game against Chelsea today.

The performance was not a classic but already Slot's team are finding ways to grind out results.

That may well prove to be important when it comes seeing their trophy cabinet at the end of the season.

  • He's one of their own

Curtis Jones not only grabbed the winner for The Reds this evening but won the man of the match award in the process.

Stepping into the starting line-up replacing Alexis Mac Allister, the local lad really stood out today.

He will cherish that award and the three points his goal got them.

Liverpool climb back to the  top of the Prem thanks to an outstanding Curtis Jones but the way his side stuck together will surely mean Enzo Maresca isn’t having the blues about his Blues display.

  • FT: Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

It is all over at Anfield.

Liverpool hold on to take all three points in this huge clash.

90+4. Mac Allister clatters into Palmer and sends him to the floor.

The referee awards a free kick and shows the Argentine a yellow card.

As the ball is crossed into the box, Veiga wins the header but sends it over the crossbar.

Big chance for Chelsea full back.

It is a nervy end to the game at Anfield.

  • Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

    90. It has gone a little quiet at Anfield now.

Chelsea are seeing a lot of the ball and there is concern from the home fans that they could be hit with the sucker punch.

It is all about game management now for The Reds.

Stick or twist time, to go for the goal to kill the game off or look to hold onto what you already have.

We are going to have seven added minutes.

  • Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

    85. Gusto has remained down after a challenge from Mac Allister.

The Liverpool midfielder won the ball but also took some of the player in the process.

It could be a nervy end to this game with only a single goal separating the teams.

Chelsea are finding a lot of space in the wide areas at the moment, the hosts will need to keep an eye on that.

  • Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

    82. Konate is shown a yellow card for a clumsy challenge on Nkunku.

Jones is replaced by Mac Allister and gets a great reception from the home fans.

    Alexander-Arnold comes off for Gomez.

The manager is looking to have some fresh legs for the closing stages of the game.

Alexander-Arnold swings a cross into the box but it is headed clear at the near post.

Veiga is booked for blocking off Diaz as he looked to run past him.

  • Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

    74. You start to feel Liverpool need another goal to put this one to bed.

A one-goal lead never leaves you feeling comfortable heading into the closing stages of a game.

Neto runs at the Liverpool defence, cutting in from the left, but he drags his shot well wide of the goal.

THE KOP has taken a while to properly warm up to Arne Slot but after Curtis Jones put his side ahead again sounding more like their Jurgen Klopp joy days.

  • Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

    69. Gakpo is replaced by Diaz for the hosts.

Not what the Chelsea defence will want to be seeing this late in the game, having to deal with the pace and trickery of the Columbian.

Palmer is dropping deeper looking for the ball in this second-half.

Slot's side have done well to prevent the dangerous attacker seeing much of the ball in areas where he can hurt them.

Nunez and Badiashille are having a real battle between the pair and the Uruguayan is shown a yellow card for a late challenge.

  • Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

    63. The Reds are starting to put pressure on the Chelsea defence more.

Sadly for the home fans they are just lacking that clinical pass in the final third.

The visitors are having to throw more bodies forward, which leaves them open to the counter-attack.

Neto swings in a cross to the back post but Madueke's volley is easily saved by Kelleher.

Gravenberch is penalised for a foul just outside the box, giving Chelsea a free-kick in a dangerous position.

  • Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea

This game already has a lot more tempo and fire about it compared to the first-half showing.
