NICKY HENDERSON'S new world-record horse has been absolutely smashed to bits in the Cheltenham betting.

Palladium has been walloped into as short as 10-1 for next March's Triumph Hurdle after Sun Racing told you he was heading to the Seven Barrows boss.

That's almost double the previous world record, set by Sir Alex Ferguson when he bought Regent's Stroll earlier this year.

Palladium is a former German Derby winner and no trainer has won the Triumph Hurdle more than Hendo.

The legendary trainer had the favourite Sir Gino lined up for the contest last year until forced to pull him out as a bug ravaged his yard.

William Hill were the first to offer odds on Palladium and went - what appears now - to have been a very generous 25-1.

You can argue until your face turns blue about the worth of backing a completely unproven horse for a race five months away.

But some punters thought the value simply had to be snapped up and took the price quickly.

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: "It’s only a Wednesday in October but we’ve already seen significant support for Palladium in the Triumph Hurdle betting.

"Nicky Henderson’s record €1.4million buy was 25-1 this morning, but he’s been very popular, and we’ve had to cut him into 14-1 for the Festival.

"Willie Mullins’ Willy De Houelle had been the talking horse for the Triumph over the summer and currently tops the betting at 5-1, but the way Palladium has been backed today suggests that punters think Nicky Henderson has a worthy adversary for him come Cheltenham."

Palladium went straight into Triumph second-fav and the 14s was the best on offer anywhere.

Paddy Power and Betfair were joined by Bet Victor in going for 12s, while Sky were the most cautious offering just 10-1.
