Ejaria, 26, had spells on loan with Sunderland and Rangers before joining Reading in a £3.5million deal.

The Londoner ended his five-year Royals stay last December after nine goals in 127 games.

He has now joined Egyptian giants Zamalek on trial with a view to a permanent move after flying in to Cairo on Tuesday.

Based at Giza, home to Egypt's legendary pyramids, they are one of Africa's most successful club.

Their Portuguese coach Jose Gomes managed Ejaria during his time in charge of Reading.

Zamalek spokesman Ahmed Salem said: "Some have claimed that we have officially signed ex-Liverpool player Ovie Ejaria.

"But the truth is that the player has been offered to us, and the decision has not been finalised yet.

"The file for negotiations with new players and reinforcements is ongoing, and it will remain open until the last moment.

"There are negotiations in more than one direction, and we still have time until the registration window closes."

Zamalek, nicknamed the White Castle, play at the 75,000-capacity Cairo International Stadium.

But despite all their domestic and continental trophy success, Ejaria would become the only member of their current squad to boast English football experience.
