Having worked alongside son Eric in the intervening period, builders broke ground on Trump's new course last year.

It will be situated at the existing Trump International resort in Menie, around 10 miles north of Aberdeen.

The new 18-hole project is set to be situated next to Triump's original course built in 2012.

It will be named the MacLeod Course, in homage to the maiden name of Trump's late mother, Mary Anne, who was born in Scotland before emigrating to New York.

Trump's son Eric has made some grand statements over the new project.

The businessman, 40, claims that alongside the original, the Macleod course will make up "the greatest 36 holes in golf".

A series of stunning images have been released of the Macleod site.

Executive vice president of Trump International Scotland, Sarah Malone, has gushed over the progress that has so far been made.

She said: "Since breaking ground with President Trump and Eric Trump last spring, we have made extraordinary progress.

"This course is unlike any other links course ever built and is exceeding every expectation.

"A truly remarkable, world-class team of architects, engineers, environmental scientists and industry specialists have been working tirelessly in the background – etching out every square inch of this phenomenal piece of land to create one of the great wonders in the world of golf."

Aerial images of the picturesque course show off its incredible dunes, with amazing views over the North Sea.

In fact, the £150million Macleod Course is said to feature the "largest sand dunes in Scotland".

Some holes are even situated just yards from the beach, with players set to have to be careful not to thwack their balls into the North Sea.

When plans for the new course were confirmed, Aberdeenshire Council received several complaints from local residents regarding the project.

Irrespective of gripes from locals, Aberdeenshire Council chiefs gave the project the go-ahead.

Despite opposition, Trump International have been bullish over the sustainability of the project.

They claimed it to be "one of the most environmentally friendly and sustainable" courses ever built.

Plans for the resort initially included a 450-bedroom hotel on-site.

But as it stands, its accommodation is limited to just 21 rooms and a lodge.

When he became president in 2017, Trump handed over the reins of his golf empire to his sons.

But he retains a financial interest in them.
