A MAJOR sporting event is set to return to the UK for the first time in six years - and fans are over the moon.
Iconic track Silverstone will host the penultimate race of the 2025 European Le Mans Series.
It replaces the event previously held in Mugello, and will take place on September 14 before the season finale the following month.
A four-hour race will be held - the same duration as the other five races in the calendar - Barcelona, Le Castellet, Imola, Spa-Francorchamps and Portimao.
Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, said: “Once again the European Le Mans Series calendar features a selection of circuit, each with a variety of challenges to test both the car and the driver.
“The ACO is extremely pleased to see the ELMS returning to the UK for the first time since 2019, giving the British fans a taste of Le Mans at home at Silverstone.
