England 61 Scotland 21: Six Nations title retained in thundering fashion by Eddie Jones’ men who brush aside Scotland with ease and equal world record wins

JONATHAN JOSEPH’S hat-trick clinched the Six Nations and kept England on course for back-to-back Grand Slams.

Eddie Jones’ invincible Red Rose’s retained the Calcutta Cup as they smashed Scotland and equalled the record 18 wins on the bounce set by the formidable All Blacks.

Vern Cotter’s side came to the capital looking for their first win here in 34 years and they were well and truly embarrassed by the world’s second-best outfit.

Bath star Joseph sliced open the Scots defence twice in the first-half and did it again three minutes after the break to complete his terrific trio of tries in a bonus-point victory.

It was only the fourth England triple in a Calcutta Cup match after Cyril Lowe 1914, John Carleton 1980 and Jamie Noon 2005.

Joseph, who scored a hat-trick against Italy in Rome last year, also set-up his club teammate Anthony Watson for another five-pointer.

Centre Owen Farrell, who was touch and go after a mystery leg injury in the build-up to the game, nailed six conversions and four penalties in a 26-point haul.

And then to rub salt in the wounds England unleashed world-class no.8 Billy Vunipola off the bench and the Saracens man wasted no time in popping up with his comeback score.

Scrum-half Danny Care also got on the action on his 70th cap with a double to chalk up seven tries.

England simply ran riot with their biggest ever win against the Scots in week where their team tactics were exposed and gifted to Cotter’s camp.

But Scotland clearly hadn’t done their homework and just as England said on their whiteboards shown to the world at Pennyhill Park – they played off the line out and ripped the opposition apart.

Yes Scotland had a nightmare start and were rocked by an early injury to star man Stuart Hogg.

But Fraser Brown was lucky to stay on the pitch when he dumped Elliot Daly in a horrific and menacing tackle after less than two minutes of action.

The hooker was yellow carded and England made out-going Cotter’s side pay instantly as Farrell converted Jospeh’s opener and then added another three points with a penalty.

That set the tone for their shambolic display and England well and truly took the Tartan boys to town.

Hogg’s absence didn’t help and his replacement Mark Bennett also didn’t last long before he was off on a stretcher.

England also equaled their own record of 14 Six Nations wins in a row at HQ – matching their 1998-2003 hot streak.

And in the end Gordon Reid and a Huw Jones’ double for the Scots, as well as Finn Russell’s six points simply meant nothing.
