However, the centre-back was very unfortunate in the 21st minute when the visitors won a corner-kick down the left.

Panic ensued in the Merseysiders' defence after the cross and that was when Wataru Endo instinctively tried to whack the ball away.

However, Endo's clearance hit Quansah and then ended at the back of Caoimhin Kelleher's net.

Liverpool fans were left stunned but stormed to social media to back the England Under-21 international who was not at fault.

One fan tweeted: "Poor Quansah. He’s just scored an own goal. He can’t catch a break that lad!"

Another commented: "That's not a good one."

A third said: "Keeper hopeless, shambolic defending too."

This one gasped: "What just happened?!"

And that one posted: "Bloody hell."

Quansah has been struggling to break into Liverpool's starting line-up under Slot.

The defender only started one match in the Premier League season opener against Ipswich next to Virgil van Dijk.

However, the youngster was replaced at half-time and Slot has been fielding Van Dijk next to Ibrahima Konate ever since.
