REAL MADRID forward Rodrygo was handed a peculiar Man of the Match award after Brazil's 1-0 win over Ecuador.

The 23-year-old scored the only goal of the game on the half hour mark, firing a deflected effort into the bottom corner to secure all three points in the World Cup qualifier.

His display landed him the Man of the Match award, but Rodrygo may have been better off without it.

The giant yellow trophy was sponsored by pharmaceutical company Cimed and appeared to be in the shape of a pill.

Fans were quick to mock the award on social media as they joked about what else it could be.

One said: "Look how proud he is of his little science project."

A third replied: "I hope that isn’t a suppository…"

And a fourth responded: "Is that a dollhouse without dolls?"

Rodrygo's impressive performance for Brazil came just days after he responded to being left off the 30-player shortlist for the Ballon d'Or.

In a pointed series of posts on Instagram, he shared various photos of him celebrating with an array of trophies and playing for Real Madrid.

Along with the images, he also shared a laughing crying emoji.

Rodrygo scored 17 goals and assisted nine in 51 games last season as Real Madrid won the LaLiga title and Champions League.

His team-mates Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rudiger, Fede Valverde, Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe were all named on the shortlist.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos, who retired at the end of last season, was the seventh Los Blancos star listed.
