ENGLAND legend Gary Lineker was taken aback when transfer guru David Ornstein took a call midway through a podcast recording.

Ornstein was discussing his childhood ambition to become a footballer on when he was forced to pause.

He said: "Actually I do just have to take a call now. Let me listen to this and I'll be straight back on."

After taking the call, the journalist continued: "Sorry about that, Gary.

"That was on Eddie Nketiah. I think it's progressing towards a conclusion to Crystal Palace.

"It's not done yet. He still obviously has to do his medical etc.

"But that was indicating that it is heading in the right direction.

"You're always a bit reticent because, as you've pointed out in the past, until the shirt is being held up and the ink is dry and they're playing for their new team, it isn't done.

"And that does frustrate a lot of people involved because the reporting often front-runs the reality.

"But in a lot of these cases you are reporting accurately and the reality at that moment in time."

Eddie Nketiah's transfer to Crystal Palace is expected to be announced on Friday before the window shuts.

The deal is understood to be worth £30million in total.
