OISIN MURPHY has explained his hospital dash - as he looks all set to return to riding today at Lingfield.

The three-time champion Flat jockey was reported to be 'unwell' after failing to show up at Kempton on Monday.

The report said the matter was 'forwarded to the head office of the BHA' - as Murphy took to X to explain his absence later in the day.

Murphy wrote at 7pm on Monday evening: "I’ve noticed blood in my breeches at the races recently and have needed to change numerous times.

"This morning I noticed more blood than I’d seen before. I’ve got haemorrhoids. I’m fine and I’ll be back riding tomorrow."

The jockey is down for four rides on the all-weather with all of the horses appearing to have a chance.

The odds suggest 10-3 Wisper, trained by Marcus Tregoning, is his best hope of victory in a fillies' handicap at 3.45.

Sun Racing's Matt Chapman explained the circumstances surrounding Murphy's Kempton no-show while presenting on At The Races.

He said: "Oisin Murphy missed his rides today and one or two tweets have tried to create massive drama but there really isn't any drama.

"Oisin's just under a little bit of observation - I'm not going to say what for, it's up to Oisin to say what for - but basically he had a situation where he was concerned about something and went to get it checked out.

"I've spoken to Andrew Balding and Andrew thinks there's every chance Oisin will be riding tomorrow.

"If he isn't riding tomorrow I can tell you right now Oisin, whatever state you're in, you will be riding in the Racing League on Thursday night!

"So nothing too serious with Oisin Murphy at all, according to Andrew Balding, who's his boss effectively."

Murphy is enjoying a brilliant season and miles ahead in the jockey standings - with a fourth crown looking a near certainty.

He has 101 winners at the time of writing, some 34 ahead of nearest challenger Rossa Ryan.

Murphy was crowned top jockey at Glorious Goodwood earlier this month, where four wins and seven runner-up finishes, meant he beat Ryan Moore to the title.

The jockey said afterwards: "I was fortunate Ryan had to go to the US!

"He rode four winners in three days and it took me five days to ride four.

"The seconds are very painful and most of them were for Andrew Balding, so thank you to him and his team, and apologies for not winning on more of them."
