BBC confirm details of new midweek Match of the Day-style show with Champions League highlights and no Gary Lineker

Reports have suggested another presenting heavyweight will host the new show

FOOTBALL fans will be able to enjoy free-to-air highlights of the Champions League this season after the BBC announced their European football show.

The Beeb have revealed details of their new Champions League highlights show that will start this term.

The national broadcaster has agreed a three-year deal with Uefa to put together match-by-match highlights of the Champions League this season.

Europe's elite competition is entering a brand new era this season as it expands from 32 teams to 36 and switches to a league-style format in the early stages.

The BBC have revealed that from 10pm on the Wednesday of Champions League matchweeks fans will be able to watch highlights of all the games on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sports website and app.

While the broadcaster will also show their very own highlights show on BBC One at 10:40pm on the same evening.

Despite Lineker doing a stand-up job on MOTD for the past 25 years, it seems he is being snubbed for the BBC's new Champions League show.
