Around 20,000 spectators are expected to attend the stylish annual horse racing event at Ascot Racecourse today.

After the thrilling six-race contest, the festivities will continue with a music concert featuring the Sugababes, Ministry of Sound Ibiza Anthems ft. Ellie Sax, Scouting For Girls and a DJ set from Denise Van Outen

Chic attendees have not disappointed with their attire and have pulled out their fanciest frocks and towering stilettos.

While some have opted for classic maxi dresses and fascinators, others have decided to wear short dresses for the summer event.

More on Ascot

Unlike Royal Ascot’s Royal Enclosure and Queen Anne Enclosure where hats are required, the dress code is less formal for the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup and Concert.

The website states: “Ladies should dress for a smart occasion; hats are encouraged but not compulsory.

“Most gentlemen wear a lounge suit and tie.

“Minimum requirement is a jacket and tie with smart trousers – no trainers.

“There will be an announcement on the day allowing jackets to be removed, should the weather be hot.”

The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup launched in 1999 at Goodwood Racecourse, but moved to Ascot in 2000.

Royal Ascot Ladies’ Day kicks off in style with colour-popping dresses and show-stopping hats

It has been held every year since then, excluding 2005 when Ascot was closed for renovation, and in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Aside from the racing, guests can make the most of fairground rides, cocktail bars and street food.

Tickets for the event start at £30 for the Queen Anne Enclosure, rising to £75 for the King Edward VII Enclosure when booked in advance.

Meanwhile, children under 18 go free.

What is the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at Ascot?

THE Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is held at Ascot Racecourse each year and sees revellers flock to the famous racing location.

The Shergar Cup is a unique team competition where jockeys from different regions of the world compete in teams, representing various countries or regions.

The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is known for its distinctive format, where points are awarded to jockeys based on their finishing positions in each race, and the team with the most points at the end of the day wins the Shergar Cup.

The event is sponsored by Dubai Duty Free, which has a long-standing association with horse racing.

The website states: “The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup is a unique fixture in the global racing calendar, featuring four teams with three jockeys in each: Great Britain & Ireland, Europe, The Ladies, and the Rest of the World.

“For the first time ever this year there will be an even male and female split across the 12 jockeys as three elite female riders make up the Rest of the World team, showcasing the unique nature of the sport where male and female jockeys compete on equal terms.”
