JAMES TRAFFORD could be a step nearer moving to Newcastle after Burnley signed a replacement.
The Toon have already failed in a £16million bid for Three Lions prospect Trafford, who was the hero of England's under-21 European Championship triumph in 2023.
But they have been given hope they could finally get their man after Burnley signed another keeper, Etienne Green, from French side Saint-Etienne.
Fellow former Young Lion Green, 24, was born in Colchester but moved to France as a four-year-old and came through the ranks with the Ligue 1 side, making 35 appearances for them.
He signed a three-year deal with the newly-relegated Clarets, for an undisclosed fee.
Burnley are holding out for £30million for Trafford, the same fee they are demanding from Manchester United for team-mate Sander Berge.

Norwegian midfielder Berge, 26, emerged as a shock target of United, with the Red Devils set to offer him a £100k-a-week contract.
Trafford made Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad for this summer’s Euros and is also being tracked by Chelsea.
And his potential arrival at St James' Park means that Howe's side is swollen with goalkeepers.
Toon currently have FIVE senior keepers on the books, including two they have already signed this summer.
