It came a day after Denis Vieru also won bronze in the Judo by beating Frenchman Walide Khyar in the 66kg category.

The two medals took Moldova's overall tally in Olympic history to eight, and Osmanov was overjoyed with his achievement.

He celebrated by dropping to his knees and roaring with delight.

Osmanov tried to reign in his celebration but allowed himself one final fist pump, which ended in disaster.

The 24-year-old overextended his arm which caused his shoulder to dislocate, with Osmanov letting out a cry of anguish.

He then held his arm and put his head towards the ground as his opponent Manuel Lombardo held his head in his hands after defeat.

Osmanov recovered and was able to collect his bronze medal on the podium alongside champion Hidayat Heydarov and silver medalist Joan-Benjamin Gaba, who beat Osmanov in the semi-final.
