The Applause singer took to a specially built stage on the iconic landmark, performing the track Mon Truc en Plume, a circus song that is well known in France.

She sported a black corset, satin hotpants and gloves, while dancers also dressed in all black surrounded her with pink and white feathers.

The singer - real name Stefani Germanotta - took to her famous piano for another song - but some viewers watching at home said she could barely be heard.

5 REASONS TO LOVE PARIS 2024

Excitement is already building as a white piano was seen floating down the River Seine, ready to be played by a surprise performer.

For the first time it is being performed on a river and not in a stadium.

High-wire artists have also been spotted seemingly walking on water, and dancers are preparing to dazzle from rooftops along the route.

The grand procession will culminate at the iconic Eiffel Tower.

An estimated three thousand spectators will line the kilometre-long route, witnessing a spectacle involving 2000 artists and 500 musicians, who have been meticulously rehearsing for 200 days.

The opening ceremony, expected to last around four hours, was designed to be a lavish and innovative display along the River Seine to celebrate the city's history, beauty, and the rich diversity of France.

Paris has been preparing for this day for years.

But the festivities were marred by travel chaos today and a series of arson attacks on the railway networks, disrupting both local and international services.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer had to fly to Paris instead of taking the train from St Pancras.

Snoop Dogg lit up at the Olympics earlier today.

The American rapper, 52, danced through the streets of Paris on the final day of the torch's relay across France.

The Californian, decked out in the all-white outfit worn by all torchbearers and bold gold shoes, waved to the crowds.
