RONNIE O'SULLIVAN has been given the chance to win an extra £100,000 during the 2024/25 snooker season.

However, the Rocket will have to achieve a feat he has never managed before in order to claim the prize.

The World Snooker Tour have announced a new £100,000 bonus for the first player to make 100 centuries this season.

Chairman Steve Dawson explained: "We are delighted to introduce this new bonus as it creates an extra storyline which will run throughout the season.

"If a player is on target for the ‘century of centuries’ going into the last few events then the drama will build with every match!"

Only two players have previously made 100 centuries in a single season before.

Neil Robertson was the first to do so in 2013/14, before Judd Trump made 102 centuries six years later.

O'Sullivan's best tally to date saw him make 74 during the 2017/18 campaign.

The current season kicked off in June with the Championship League in Leicester.

It continued with last week's Shanghai Masters, where Trump claimed the title by beating Shaun Murphy in the final.

He made 10 centuries on his way to victory to lead this season's standings ahead of Murphy, who has eight to his name.

Meanwhile, O'Sullivan has just a single century following his loss to Trump in the semi-finals in Shanghai.

The seven-time world champion has also lost his status as world number one.

O'Sullivan now finds himself ranked fifth after slipping from the top spot for the first time in two years following his exit at the Crucible in May.

The Rocket's next chance to add to his tally will come at the inaugural Xi'an Grand Prix in China, which gets underway on August 19.

He is set to face Wang Yuchen in qualifying in Xi'an in order to reach the main draw.

A prize fund of £850,000 is on offer at the event, with the winner taking home £177,000.
